Exhaust header coatings

I know HPC is the only way to go...and I plan to have it done, but for now I dont have the money to get it done so I was wondering if there is something that will atleast help keep my headers from rusting till I can get it done?

When I had mine HPC coated it cost me more because I had used them for a week. It was quite a bit cheaper to have brand new ones coated because they need less prep.

There was an article in Hodrod or CarCraft a month or two ago about doit your self coatings. They were the same kind of stuff as the pro outfits they claimed. They were even doing valves and pistons. They cured the parts in a regular oven. I am going to the library later today I will check and see if the issue is there and let you know.

cool, I think I will give that a try...its only $50 to do it...

I think I might try this too (the Black Satin BHK). On my 258, the exhaust manifold intertwines with the intake manifold (stupid design). I now have stainless headers, but the exhaust must really be heating up the intake air badly. I'm wondering if this coating would help. I also have excessive heat problems under the hood that this might help with.

Dang, I wished I had found out about that stuff beforeI just finished painting my new manifolds. I ordered some Por-20 brilliant aluminum (basically high temp paint) I don't think it will do anything to keep heat down, but it is supposed to keep the manifolds looking good and free from corrosion. I still have a ton left caleb if you want to try some.

I looked into the HPC coating and found it was too expensive for me to be justified. I think they sandblast before coating anyways, so you could try about anything and still go back to HPC.
