Exhaust shop in Bountiful area

Can anyone recommend a decent exhaust shop in the Bountiful area. I want to take the headers and side pipes off my CJ and go back to manifolds. I have the manifolds, (thx DaveB), I plan on putting them on, but I don't have a welder or bender so I'll have to let someone else finish the job for me. I need a Y-pipe, cat, flowmaster and short tailpipe. I called one shop and they said $500-600 maybe a little more.

Seems a bit high to me figuring a flowmaster at $120, cat at $100, I can buy a pre-fabbed tail pipe for $40. That comes to $260ish. which means $240-340+ for a Y-pipe, some hangers, and labor.

Am I out of touch with reality? is this a fair price, or should that deal come with a jar of vaseline?

Granted I have only called one place since I'm not ready today, but I've got to get it done shortly.

I've had SEVERAL people recommend Rays on 500 West.

Ray's Muffler Service
792 South 500 West, Bountiful, UT 84010

I have NO experience with them, but people around my neighborhood seem to speak pretty highly of them.

I thought about them, but my only dealing with them was with my powerstroker. I just needed a new muffler put on, but since I didn't buy it from them they wouldn't do it. They wanted to do a custom 4" for $1200. I walked away from them, but I thought about calling them to bid this job.

I had my YJ done at Rays a few years ago. I would definitely go there again. Can't recall the price for sure, but I do recall it being a bit below what other shops quoted me.

Without a doubt the best place in my experience is to Justin at Charlie's Service Center in Sunset, just up past Clearfield. He has done every single custom exhaust set-up for my old shop and he still does all of my personal vehicles and projects. He has the craftmanship and pricing to be worth the drive from most anywhere.

Rays did my Scout and did great work. I provided the mufflers and told them how I wanted it and it turned out great. It would be nearly impossible for the exhaust to be damaged w/ how they tucked it up so high above the frame. I don't remember what I paid but I am sure it was below $300. I would go there again w/ any vehicle.

I gave Ray's a call and they gave me a breakdown of costs that came to $500-$550.

That seems to be about what I was quoted before. Both shops are qouting about $170 for the cat. I see cat's on the web that say they fit my CJ, but they are only about $60 what's the difference?

Maybe I need to expand my search into Salt Lake. That just seems like a lot of cash for such a little exhaust system.

Did you try Charlie's in Sunset? Ask for Justin and tell him Bud sent you.

I've noticed that too. Mufflers and Cat Converters are WAY cheaper on the interweb, even after shipping. For my YJ, I just bought the units I wanted off www.summitracing.com and took them to the exhaust shop.

I have all my work done at ray's. they can be hard to deal with but the work they do makes it worth it. STAY FAR AWAY FROM R&R they screwed me so bad, my truck is now falling apart and there answer to the problem is get it fixed somewere else and sue is to cover the cost.....the owner used to work for Ray's is why I took it there...

I would be happy to send you some pictures of the SH*T work they did to my truck. like were they just cut the pipe to change the transmission, or were they charged me $372 to drill out the studs on the flang and replace them with some bolt and didn't fix the leak I had or were they didn't put the springs back in. the really nice one is were they move the tail pipe so now it is starting to melt my rear bumper......

that sucks man sorry to hear about your bad experience. I have never had anything but good come from them. I guess it can happen anywhere though. I go there because I new the owner from when he was over at rays I have known him for a really long time maybe the friend deal got him to do better work who knows.

R&R gave me the first bid. I had them put a Walker BTM on my powerstroker a few months ago. They were the only shop in Bountiful that would even try it. They did a wonderful job on that project(not that it was a hard project). Ray's wouldn't even look at my stroker(they wanted to sell me their custom exhaust), I tried bountiful Midas, but they said no way in he!! will that muffler fit. R&R had it in out quickly. I'll try the Sunset place, I was just hoping to find something either in bountiful or salt lake. I was hoping to be able to just drop it off on the way in to work, but it's worth a phone call.

Well off to Ray's the CJ went. I didn't call up to sunset, since I didn't want to make the drive.

I asked about the cheaper "web stuff" they matched part numbers on the cat and Ray's told me even though the web stuff says it fits and works, it is too small and will clog within a year or two. Maybe thats a line, maybe not. It makes it easier in the end just dropping it off and saying call when I can pick it up. Plus they said they warranty anything they sale and put on. I called every shop I could find in Bountiful and SLC and all of them were $500-600, so I guess thats a fair bid.
