what exactly does one do. and what is it made out of. would it be ok to gut out or to remove and put pipe in its place.

Must be a 70's car..... Just a second muffler. Take it out, gut it, or do whatever is easiest. It will change the sound slightly, but not bad.

Oh, in that case take it wheelin, and let a big rock do the work for ya... :D Same thing, it's just trying to make it sound like a Hoover, that's it's only meaning in life. Gut it, or dump it. If it's good, leave it.

exhaust resonators are like miny mufflers, they resonate or reflect the exhaust and pretty much help out the actual big muffler. We have had them replaced quite a few times becuase when they get old and reflect the exhaust they rattle like a catalytic can, their usally not too expensive in my expirience though.

i wouldnt gut it out id just take it out you dont have to have it

or you can leave it and take the muffler off as long as you have one or the other your ok

so i did it and i found a noticable change in horse power. in the high end i get up and go like its cool. low end i feel like i lost a little bit of umph. but i like it. it goes well with my 3.4 with the trd supercharger.
