EXPLODED TRANSFER CASE

Yeah, today the ride home from work really sucked. To make a long story short, my ride home ended with a tow truck taking my rubicon home. Going down I-15, it went shake , clank and then it literally sounded like a shotgun went off in the cab. My transfer case is now a shrapnel paper weight. Any ideas why? Thanks!

When it happened to me I was pulling a boat up I-15 and then thing skidded to a stop in the middle of the Freeway. My chain busted and got caught up inside.

Warranty? Any recalls?
I'm pretty sure there's no recalls, and the dealer will definitely blame this on maintenance issues or the front driveline.

Chain could definitely be stretched to the point where it comes apart or gets bound in the case.

If it's lifted, it is also fairly common for the front driveshaft to be compressed too far (the added droop on short-arm lifts without driveline modifications are the culprit,) which cracks the case and causes all sorts of problems. If this was the case, the t-case was likely cracked and leaking before the explosion.

Either way, it sounds messy!

Oil, there was plenty. It came gushing out. I got a few pictures, just need some help loading them.... Talked to a dealer and they are almost positive it's warrantied. Well I guess I won't be getting a twin stick anytime soon, but it is better news then the other... I am still trying to determine why. Could an output seal be a cause?

The seal would be a possible cause if you had no oil... load the pics to an image site like Photobucket or imageshack, then link them. :D

I had a feeling you had some good karma coming your way, aren't warranties great!

Yeah they are. I don't have one of them photolinking sites, I can send them to someone. It's not even a story to really tell. It would have really been better if it were at least a trail story. Then again, it was nice how close I was to home.
