I mounted some Harbor Freight fog lights. I used a manual switch so I can leave them on at night when the occasion arises. They work okay and for the $20 I am into them you can't really go wrong.

Checker used to carry some small ones with a flood lens on them, I think for like $10 bucks, just used a regular brake light bulb, but they were smaller and easier to tuck up there so they didn't take damage. They dont draw much power either so wiring is simple, you could just tap into your backup light circuit for juice, or run a switch like seth said, I did both.
I am currently running the HF lights on my buggy and I am happy with those too, they have a glass lens on them though (they pop if you get them wet when hot).

Try six states they have a few sizes and shapes, flush mounted, so they dont get in the way, also a good selection of LED.
