We've made a tradition out of finding some good Fall Colors and this year was no different. Last year was going to be hard to beat, we hit the San Juan Mountains at the perfect time! - San Juan Mountains, Fall Colors Tour 2011
This year I wanted to go somewhere else, so we backtracked a recent motorcycle ride I did earlier in the year. We left from Fruita and drove to Basalt, CO... from there we headed up Hagerman Pass, which is a former railroad grade and very fun and scenic to drive. There are a couple of tunnels thru the mountain that have collapsed and are gated off. The tunnels are still used to transport water thru the mountain. It's a pretty interesting drive, to say the least and worth reading up on if you're into that kind of thing. After reaching the summit at 11,925 feet, we drove down past Turquoise Lake outside of Leadville.
You need a closer look at that white crap... yeah, it's fresh....
