For a long time I have heard of this "fish taco" from Del Taco, but there was no Del Taco in my travels. If there are a bunch that have been there forever in Salt Lake, I don't know about them.
The Del Taco here was moved to Lake Point, about 1/2 a mile from the exit. I was hungry so I pulled in for a fish taco. Southern Californians I've known have raved about them. The fish taco consists of some fried fish, cabbage, tomatoes, and secret sauce, with a tasty tortilla.
I do not eat "secret sauce", under any circumstances. I can't stand mayonnaise either, and I suspect there was some of that in the secret part of the sauce.. so I passed, and substituted lettuce for the cabbage.
I unwrapped my tacos, and noted with some surprised glee that they include a lime slice with them. Win! I ripped open my packet of Del Inferno sauce (with jalapenos as the 3rd ingredient, hooray), squeezed the lime, and took a bite.
MMMMMM MMMM, delicious! So much better than Taco Bell, and pretty damn good compared to.. well, anything good. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was tasty, filling, and $1.79-- about the price of a grilled steak soft taco from Taco Bell. The lime added that bit of extra tastiness that I find lacking in most commercial food, and the fish was a good, dense fish that didn't mush into nothing-- though I'll admit that it wasn't a super flavorful fish.
I will make an effort to find Del Tacos from now own when I'm hungry around lunchtime.
88 Tacoma points for a tasty, filling, lime-drenched fish taco
