It might look like an average 2007 Jeep SRT8 at first glance, but from the moment this twin turbo beast launches, it becomes very clear this one is anything but average.

According to the thread on yellowbullet.com where we found this video, this SRT8 produces an amazing 1142 horsepower thanks to a massive twin turbo setup on a Gen III 426 Hemi.

Even more incredible is the fact this Jeep is daily driven and made the 11 hour trip to the drag strip before it ran the 9.46 second quarter mile seen here.

:eek::eek::eek:

That launch is down right impressive!

Probably a cage and a driveshaft hoop... I don't recall what the requirements are for a sub-10 sec quarter mile time.

I don't remember specifically either, but I think a 12 second car needs a four point NHRA cage, an 11 second car needs a six point cage? (never planned on having anything that fast, so I didn't pay that much attention past a 13 second car)

Sounds right, it's been awhile since I slummed around at the track.

Now we’re into the really quick cars, those running from 9.00 to 9.99 seconds in the quarter. These cars are blazingly fast and capable of speeds approaching 150 mph. Significant improvements must be made to the car in order to step into the 9-second zone. Foremost among these is a rollcage. The cage must be constructed of mild-steel tubing at least 15/8 inch in diameter, with .120-inch wall thickness. It can also be chrome-moly tubing of .083-inch wall thickness with a total of eight attachment points. These eight points refer to the placement of the cage surrounding the driver, including the two rear support bars. NHRA does not require bars that run forward to the front suspension, although many cage designs include them. All cars running 9.99 or quicker must have the cage certified by NHRA and have the NHRA certification sticker attached to the cage.

Attached to the cage is a window net to keep the driver’s arms inside the car. The driver must also wear a neck collar and fireproof clothing meeting an SFI spec. Additional requirements include an NHRA competition license, an external electrical shutoff and a flexplate/automatic transmission shield. If your car can run over 150 mph in the quarter, as many of these cars do, then NHRA also requires a parachute to help slow the car down. Now that we’ve primed the pump, your best bet is to obtain a 1995 NHRA Rulebook for $10 and carefully read the E.T. Bracket General Regulations section. The Rulebook specifies exactly what will be required depending upon your car’s e.t. capability. Drag racing with fast street cars is tons of fun. It’s even better when you do it safely.

So with this this running 145 MPH in a Quarter.... it's 5 MPH from needing a parachute! :eek: That would be a first for a Jeep!

Very nice run! And that Jeep probably got away with running that 9 without the safety equipment if it didnt report to the track it's capabilities. After that first run chances are they didnt let it run again. At least that's how it goes at RMR out here.

Helmet required at 13.99, 6 point roll bar required at 11.49, roll CAGE (usually 10+ point) required to run single digits. The info in that link is a little out dated. Awesome Jeep though!

When I see stuff like that all I can think about is how much money is involved in 1 vehicle.. Seems kind of silly :-\

Yeah......nobody would put that much money into a rock crawler now......would they????:greg:

I feel the same about those guys too.... Especially when it's borrowed Money.
But, I am very conservative about my spending.. from my 10yr old cars down to my $13 jeans.. So I guess I am extreme on the opposite side, and people probably think i am silly too.
The important thing is that every one is happy with their stuff, right? :D
