FF14bolt for trade and maybe more

Ok, heres the deal.
I have aquired a rear 14 bolt full floating axle, but it's the older version with a stock locker in it. What I want is the newer version with the 10.5''(I think that's the size)ring in it. What I would like to do is trade it for the newer axle or trade plus cash. So let's here what you all got for me.

they came with two lockers Gov loc and Detroit, which is it? Also the old one is 10.5" ring gear, are you talking about the real new ones or the SF ones?

Well-now you got me all  . lockers- dont know, These came out of a 1972 chevy surberban 3/4 ton. All I know is that there is some type of locker in it.
Now on the ring gear size I thought they were 9.5" on pre 1972 axles. But you know more than me on this subject. All I want is a full floating 14 bolt that does not have the drop out 3rd member. And no I dont think that i'am talking about the "new ones", just something out of say: 1988 chevy 3/4ton and up.

Any and all help with this would be great! So fire away. :)

no 14 bolt has ever had a drop out third member...if the one you have has a drop out then its likely an Eaton...14 bolts had a slight change sometime around the late 70s or early 80s but its nothing thats a big deal, mostly just need to know so you can order the correct install kit for it. The only different really in the newest 14 bolts is they come with discs from the factory. If you really have a FF 14 bolt then I'd say you have what you want;)

the 9.5" ring gear 14 bolts are teh SF ones...they also have 33 spline shafts I believe.

They are fine axles and are worth rebuilding. I think there are actually advantages over a 14bolt.
sweet, that's what I hoped for. Now I just need to start a 'Who wants to rebuild my axles" thread :D

It will cost more to rebuild than a 14b. Look into getting it shaved they can be made to have really good clearance.

As long as I'am throwing money at an axle should i go and get a 14 bolt instead of this Eaton. Or is the extra cost that is involved in the rebuilding of the Eaton worth it. Or should I not worry about these little things because they make no differance in the long-run and I would be happy with either axle if reworked correctly.
What do you think? Also what type of lockers and gears are there available for a Eaton. And by the way, thanks so much for all this help from you guys. This is why I always enjoy to be a part of this site.

Personally I would rather have an Eaton the reasons are 1- clearance( The Eaton can be shaved to provide the clearance of a 9" I hear) 2- Weight and 3-brackets can be welded to the diff easily(plenty weld to the 14bolts cast section with no problems but that does not make it right.)
The downside is the cost and availability of parts. I understand that most of the increased cost to rebuild the Eaton is that the carrier bearings are of a diferent more expensive design.
If your axle already has a Detroit Locker in it you will probably be money ahead to build the eaton.

If it's got a drop out it's an HO 72, which = DOG POOP! Find yourself a 14 bolt, if you can't find one I have a few for you to choose from.

ok, you all got me confused again. At first Supergper said that if it had a drop out then it is a Eaton. But now you (Andy) say that if it does have a drop out its some other axle. What I need to know now is how to ID this axle.

The HO72 is the Eaton. I would probably listen to Andy as he knows about things like this. How about giving more info Andy I understand Dog Poo is bad, but what little I have read generally says they are pretty good rears.
