Fictionist - Local band going big

A highschool buddy of mine is in a local band called Fictionist. In fact, we were in a band together during the 02-04' years. So this is cool to see a few buddies closer to the center of a National spotlight.

Rolling Stone is hosting a contest to have the general public rank and vote on a handful of talented bands across the country. Unveiled on Jimmy Falon's Late Show Monday night was the list of bans, including Fictionist.

Check out the link to the Rolling Stone Magazine. I'd love it if you rated Fictionist with 5 stars, but really it's up to you and what you like.

who's your buddy? Stew? The first time I saw them I knew they'd make it big (back when they were "good morning maxfield.") EXCELLENT band, especially live. I remember when our band opened for them a few years ago.

I grew up around Robbie (dude with the whitemans fro), and we eventually ended up in a band together Junior and Senior years of Highschool, called 3Link. I followed Stu's Highschool band, "System", and still listen to the recordings that I have from them. THAT was a kickass sound; very raw, melodic rock with a serious edge. Stu is my older bro's age, and Stu's older bro, Andrew (who is just as musically talented as Stu) is my older sister's age - and all went to school with eachother. That Maxfield family has some unreal musical talent. I never got into "Good Morning Maxfield", but I was heavily into "System", and Stu's post mission band, "Stu Man Fu"....

I'll have to hit you up for some copies of "system" and "stu man fu" recordings (unless they're still being sold somewhere. I'll totally support local bands if they're still for sale). he is a monster guitarist.

Robbie is a great guy too. SUPER creative with effects. I remember when he was using his tv remote and cell phone to create interference with his pickups and looping it through fuzzes and delays for some really cool ambient sounds. Nice guy too.

I like to think that our HS band really opened up the gateway for Rob's insane ability for technically creative sounds. Our sounds explored all sorts of effects that he played around with.

I'll try to remember to copy some of the earlier Stu sounds for you.

There are some other cool bands on that rolling stones page too. I'm digging "the americans", and REALLY digging UME. I like "empires" too, but they sound just like Mute math to me.

The cool thing about Stu's music from the 'Stu Man Fu' days, is that he'd just gotten back from his mission, locked himself in a room with recording gear, guitars, drums, piano, keyboards, violin, you name it - and didn't come out until he'd laid down a myriad of tunes that were most likely fighting to be heard over the 2 years he was in PA. He wrote and recorded 99% of the music himself. There were some back up vocals by his older brother and younger sister, who is now Robbie's wife.. Then, Stu, his bro Andrew, sister Caitlyn, Robbie and two other other guys hit the streets performing the songs.. Kind of like a Ben Folds project, all self written but gets buddies to tour and play..

very cool, I didn't know that. The amount of musical genius that kid has is disgusting. I've never seen anything like it. Yes, I'm jealous.

Stu grew up down the street from my Grandparents and was a good guy when we were kids. I hadn't seen him for years and one of my oldest friends told me to check out this band called, Good Morning Maxfield which was headed by his former mission companion named Stuart. When I made the connection I floored that this kid from way back in the day was putting out this amazing music.
My vote is for Fictionist!

We've talked about this before-- I LOVE Fictionist. And I keep having to miss their shows. :( Anyway, I'm fully into this band. I voted for 'em, and hope they win.

Hit the Rolling Stones website daily to vote. It seems as though you can vote numerous times, but not sure if it's limited to once per day or something. I just know that everytime I go back to their site I can vote again. Fictionist has lost their lead, adn needs more votes. Don't stop checking back there, vote, vote vote....
