I am not really sure there is such a thing as too much caution when it comes to governmental powers... but then, I'm preaching to the choir. :D

im not exactly convinced that a bunch of cowboys running around the country with guns are holding back any plans of government totalitarianism.

No argument there. Not that hard to organize these days though. No txt and IM in 1776 and they did alright against a totalitarian gubmint.

:D Hey! I get it now-- this IS fun. :D

Yet, I'm not totally convinced the gooberment could do much of anything forcefully (IE with the use of the Military). The .gov would have to be able to totally pull the wool over the eyes of all the service men and women to be able to completely police-state us. And with as many service people I know who understand they swore to uphold the constitution and defend this country and its people, and not the government or president or any select individual, I don't think we'd have to worry too much about that. Without the backing of our armed forces to force us to do anything you're left with a bunch of pencil pushers either too old, too overweight, or just too stupid. The American public holds a higher number of people with guns than there is government officials with guns.

Now, assuming worst case and the Pres pulls some U.N. troops, and can actually get his "civilian army" into fruition, then there might be a real chance at some horrible times to come. But the logistics of that is a timing nightmare.

I think something along those lines is the only hope we have at restoring this country to the great nation it once was. :(

I think you're more than likely right. The people of the U.S. have become too sensitive and sissified to ever start a new Revolution, or another Civil War, on principal. I think it would indeed take an act of Governmental aggression to push us to the point of retaliation. Otherwise we'll just keep on giving in slowly but surely.

Tyranny has many faces and statism is one of them.

There's no way 16 sq mi on the Potomac can control the rest of us if we don't want them to.

some may disagree with you on that

Yeah, it's much better now with all the conglomerates controlling the fed. :p

Best way to fix this country is for the people to stop believing that the dems are any different than the reps up there at the top. :cody:

i was referring to minorities, women, poor, elderly, and gays/lesbians. the "good ol days" weren't notably good for all. the current system is far from perfect, but i consider these things when i become nostalgic.

oh, and the mongers of partisan politics can suck it........
