It was snowy & cold, but could have been a whole lot worse! The sun started shinning around 11:30 out at 5mile pass and as the parking lot filled with rigs so did the spirits of our 4 wheeling souls on the 1st of Jan 2013. Most of us got out our ice scrapers and everyone warmed up their rigs in hopes of a fun & challenging first set of tracks up rattlesnake/constrictor and many of the adjacent trails surrounding 5mile pass.

Lots of rigs from mild to wild, I didnt see anyone that made it up WW that day though... it was sure a good show though!!!

Thanks to the Dirt Hedz for such a great time.

i had a great time out there, even though i was riding shotgun all day. x2 on nobody making it up waynes world, although a few made some great attempts. WW claimed a radiator and fan, as well as a blown bead, and a bent frame. Very slick conditions in some spots, but a good time was had by all.

Very cool. I really wanted to make this run, but couldn't get my front driveline back until later today. Looks like fun but Brrrrrrrr

You know, it really wasn't too bad. The only part of me that ever got cold was my feet, and even then only when I would be walking around in the snow for 20+ minutes. (I'm sure it helps to have a full top as well as a good heater, but I digress.)

This trip was very entertaining. Those of us with lockers made quick and easy work climbing the mine tailing at the end of Rattlesnake, while the open/open guys struggled mightily--sometimes providing fantastic comic relief during their attempt--and often had to take the bypass. Heck, even the 50-yard run approaching the rock garden was very challenging for the open/open guys.

Since I had brought Cameron along in his stone stock red F-150 (no lockers, no gears, running baldish street tires), we abandoned his truck partway along RS. I did the rest of RS and the tailing so he could see it (this was his first time on this trail), but we decided not to head to Constrictor. I'll bring him back when there is less (read: no) snow.

We both had a great time.

Love the snow, wish my rig was functional! Need to take a break from skiing and do some wrenching. Impressive turnout I'm glad everybody had a great time!

couple notes:
-Corbeau seat heaters are the shiznit (top or no top).
-Battery powered jackets and vest are neat solutions.
-Holy Crap, how many sets of H2's did I see out there!!!
-The portable firepit made lunch and toasty conditions for many.
-No technical wheeling involved (momentum was key).
-Cage mounted Gopro and whipping donuts are fun keepsakes.
-Cold weather conditions like Jan 1st are trouble shooting nightmares.

Looks like a fun time. Last time I ran it in the snow, the toughest part was the fire road heading back to the parking lot. A few of those off-camber roads are downright scary in the snow (especially with a spool). Great report.

Right on man, glad you guys made it out. Looked like you guys were super stocked to be hitting the trails in the snow!!! When everyone with your group was ready, ya'll took off and it was awesome to see the group bombing up the trail into the canyon.

"Super slick" is an understatement!!

Even the bigger rigs had no traction. Slippery.

Other rigs having fun pulling sleds and doing doughnuts. Good stuff.
