If a guy wanted to own a simple fish finder what should he look for? Any brands that are favored over the others? Any features that are "must have" or "nice to have"? Are color screens userful? I started to look at the Garmin line because I have liked their GPS's, but what are the other good ones to look at?

To be used in Utah lakes, mainly trout and probably some bass.

I use a humminbird 788ci. Paid off nicely yesterday :D Having the mapchart is killer. I can mark a location I was fishing in and come right back. It also has a line of where I have been so I can follow my course right back.

Collar is almost a must have, more watts the better.

Remember, a fish finder will help you located the fish not catch them.

I have a color Humminbird with GPS and really like it, especially up at the Gorge where I can mark the positions where the big macks hang out. I have several spare black and white ones hanging around and they work fine too.

I was just wondering the same thing as rusted the other day, after recently buying a boat i am looking to get the STUFF that goes with it. I want to find the fish but my main priority is knowing my depth due to the size of my boat. I looked at Cabelas and wow they range from $79-$3000 I dont need anything the fancy hell a used one would be fine. So watts are a big deal?
