It has been a topic of discussion here a few times. Ford has finally announced that they are recalling the camshaft position sensors on the 97-03 7.3 liter power stroke trucks. If you own one, you should soon receive a notice in the mail at the address listed on your registration. Or you can call a dealer and give them your VIN to find out if your truck is included in the recall and schedule an appointment for service.
If you have already replaced the sensor you may still qualify. Ford has redesigned the sensor. So if it was replaced with the old style sensor you may be qualify to get it replaced to the new style at no charge. The new sensor is gray with a silver bracket. If you have this sensor, no action is required. The old sensor is black with a gold bracket and is covered under the recall. The cam sensor is located at the 11 o'clock position above the crank pulley and is best viewed from underneath the truck.
If you have paid to have the sensor replaced and it is currently the new sensor you may qualify for reimbursement. Please contact your nearest Ford dealer for details.
