Forest Lake

This weekend i spent the night at forest lake. A friend and i took our quads and unloaded at tibble fork. We rode to Forest lake. Odd thing was, there was no trail sign stating the name and or number of the trail. We drove up that dirt road for about 3.5 miles and then came to the stream but i did not see a sign posted anywhere stating that that was the trail to forest lake. Any way, on the way up i got swallowed by a dang gully that was about 3 feet wide, 2 feet deep and 6 or so feet long. The left side banked and i was not going fast enough and my back end slipped and down i went. Sprained me wrist too.

Once i got out, we finished the very rocky climb up to forest lake. We chilled there for a few minutes then headed north for a mile or two. We saw a nice lil pound and decided to make camp there. Someone else had all ready been there and left a crap load of beer cans so we cleaned it all up and took care of the trash. Later that night about 3 am, a bull ELK showed up and bugled at us and that kinda made me nervous since i have never seen a real elk let alone hear one bugle. He was about 50 feet from us and there were about 4 females in the area to. So we just left them alone.

When morning came we cleaned up and went up some trail that took us way way up to the top. It ended and there were two hidden waterfalls. it was very steep and scary. My quad in 4x4 with diff lock had a hard time getting up. I had to choke it almost all the way because the air is thinner up there.

We came down and saw about jeeps and yotas ready to hit the trails. they closed off trail 194 so they could use it just for themselves, so we had to go home. I did take pics and i will post them later..

You camped on a trail above Forest Lake? Or you went to Forest Lake, came back, and then camped on another trail?

We camped near a trail about a mile ( more like 3/4 a mile) north from forest lake. Someone else must have had the same idea the weekend before because there were alot of beer cans that we cleaned up and also some unused shotgun shells.

oh and there is a trail that is closed off by a wooden fence, so we did not try and go up that.

I don't know where or how you would close off the trail to Forrest lake. Anyway, I was the tail gunner for the U4 ride and we didn't block it off.

It would have been cool to see those Moose.

well i was talking with someone who had a orange shirt on and he told 3 others to go up and close the trail, i swear he said the name marty.

almost every one had a bright orange shirt on that had a dirt clubs logo on it.

None the less it was still pretty dang cool to see all the rock crawlers.

so what trail did you guys hit then? around 11 PM friday night some jeeps went to forest lake

The only thing that was "closed" or better yet, "controlled", was the traffic heading out of the Forest Lake area where the road gets narrow. At about 10AM the U4 had two guys in orange shirts to hold back people going down, while 40 or so vehicles came up... This was to reduce traffic jams on the narrow stretch of road. But that was 30yds from the turn off to Forest Lake.. I can't imagine any of the Dirthedz (volunteers in orange) telling folks that trails were closed for the day.

dirtheadz, yes thats the logo i saw. Im thinking it may have been a few guys's idea to close off the trail but then it didnt happen because they were not in charge. Well im glad that it didnt get closed off.

any way, did some one take down the sign to forest lake, because i did not see it and i was looking for it since it was my first time up there. My friend knows that are very well and he knew where to turn off but i would have missed it because i was looking for a sign. LOL

I don't think there is a sign... Most those trails go off of a number system, and might be marked on plastic trail markers
