Freezer Troubles

So the freezer half of my fridge/freezer combo died this morning. Most of the ice in the ice bin melted and food starting to thaw. Is is worth looking into what broke and repairing the freezer? Or, am I better off just buying a replacement?

I can check current, voltage, stuff like that with a meter. I'll look at the things mentioned above and see if it's any of those.

Our side by side only has one cooling unit. So the freezer side cools the fridge. I think most are like that.

Google the model number and problem. I am amazed at the help you can find for anything.

I have never worked on a fridge before but I wonder if you swapped the temp switches to see if the problem changes? You wouldn't be out any money. I bet they are the same & easy to get to as well.

Thanks for the responses. Found a local guy who does appliance repair for a decent price. Dropped it off and he said it wouldn't be a problem to fix.

Cool, I tried fixing our old washer and it did not go so well. So now we have a nice new front loader
