I'm probably gonna be picking up a jeep truck here soon. i used too have a 79 j20 with 60s front and rear and i remember the guy telling me the front was out of a dodge but I'm wondering which years it could be out of. is there a downfall to a dodge or why does nobody seem to use them?

Plenty of people use Dodge axles. They're a wee bit narrower, not an awful choice.. but they're all going to be wider than that truck. So plan on that.

I'd rather keep costs down for now. I just don't have the money for a ford 60 right now. Is it easier to come by a dodge and what years would be good to get one from?

Mid '70's chevy axles are a bolt in SOA affair if the J truck is '74 or later, earlier models require new spring mounts and shackle hangers under the frame. The spring perches are in the perfect spot and you get flat top knuckles for the high steer. The chevy axles I know are a total of three inches wider. Not really sure about the dodge axles but I'm sure it would be very similar.
