has anyone done front digs with a transfercase that has a CDL ( center dif lock) by unlocking the cdl and locking the back tires?

i was told it "can" eat up the dif but then asked if anyone had any experience with failure and no one responded..

I have not, but it sounds like a grenaded center diff waiting to happen... I'm sure it "can" and "will" eat up the diff. You'd be better off locking the center diff and using some sort of rear driveshaft disconnect IMO.

yeah you're right.. i just was wondering why that would be so hard on the front dif..i guess i dont really under stand it.. i was told it works just like a diff in the axle.. and having 1 tire spinning and the other one stuck on a ledge doesnt eat up the diff in the axle..

oh and the " can" was because on pirate when i was talking about it they said "can" with the " " so i didn't know what they were getting at and they never answered

Diffs in axles blow up all the time because people do the one-tire-fire too much. The spider/side gears inside the diff are small, use thrust washers instead of bearings, and have no forced oiling system. Plus, when you are on the gas with only one tire spinning, those side/spider gears are spinning very fast.

It is very common to see diffs kersplode because of this.
