Front, or rear??? check the link first

Now... I have an upcoming restomod project for one of my dream trucks, a sweet '71 FJ40. I also have the Blazer, with a low-pinion GM 60 in the front.

Question: Should I use this for a front, or a SF rear?? It comes with either SF ends for I *think* big-bearing Ford axles, or Dedenbear/Reid inner C's. :greg:

I'm leaning towards 6-bolt 60 ends on a front, which are super overkill but hey, it's free(ish).

What say ye?

Just got off the phone. I'm getting a housing w/0.375" thick, tapped mounting face, 3" tubes, and Dedenbear C's, offset to the passenger side for the Cruiser-to-be.

I'm beginning to think it may be worth it to buy a star (or gear.) Congratulations. Building the front would definitely be cooler, but I imagine third members are more expensive than finding one for a rear would be. Have them ship it directly to Sandy Cone of Cone industries and have him build you a full floater if you don't like SF.

If you do decide to unload it, I know Mesha is looking for one

I guess the third member would be, but the ring and pinion wouldn't be or you would be driving on the coast side of the gear. Same reason you can't just put a front axle in the back and have 4 wheel steer. That's why the early Currie front 9" used 8.8" reverse cut gears, since no reverse cut 9" where available at the time. Now you can get reverse cut 9" gears, they're just more $$.

There are enough parts out there now to make it worthwhile I think... Chances are good that I will be regearing any junkyard 3rd for the right gear ratio. so that's not so bad.... and some of the aftermarket stuff isn't awful...
