FS Feeler: 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser FZJ80

My brother in law has a 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser that he wants to sell, but he is unsure of the value. I don't have pictures at this time, but wanted to see what y'all think so I can pass some info back to him.

I personally have never seen the vehicle, as it is in Oregon, but the condition sounds a little rough. It has 176k miles, a dent on the drivers side door (no idea how bad), runs and drives fine (so i am told), leather interior that has plenty of tears and worn out areas, and has a diff lock. I assume the diff lock is for the tcase, but I am not a Toyota guy, so I am not certain. The knob is a turn style knob with Off, RR, and FR RR on it. Did these come with lockers in 1994?

When I get pictures, I will post them, but based on this generic description, what do you think this thing is worth? I was thinking $2500-$6000, but what do I know??? I am by no means a Toyota expert, just going off past searches and what these things were listed for.

If my brother in law doesn't sell it in Oregon, he will be bringing it down here in August for me to try and sell for him.

The locker knob controls the factory electric front and rear diff locks. Not many Cruisers have this option, and assuming they're in good working order, they make it worth a fair amount more.

Pics would greatly help with valuation... Any recent maintenance/repairs? I think your 2500-6000 range is a good start, but I'm sure we can narrow it down further with more info.

Here are the pics. A few dents, cracked leather, and tiny tires. Otherwise, it looks clean. I have never driven it, ridden in it, or even seen it in person, but knowing who my Brother in Law bought it from, I am pretty sure it is sound mechanically and well maintained.

So, what's it worth? Any interest here? Let me know if there are further questions that need answers and I will do my best to get those answers.

How does the 4WD work? I see H-N-L on the tcase shifter, is it pushbutton 4wd?

Just FYI on the pricing... I sold a 1996 with lockers, a pretty clean body and leather interior that was in better shape then this one for $4500.

If I were looking to buy that one, personally I would not pay more than $3,500 - $4000 considering the condition of the body and interior. That would also be assuming that the engine is in good shape, it runs and drives well and does not have any other glaring issues.

The lockers will help it sell, the interior condition and dents will not help.

Its full time 4wd. All 80 series cruisers were. Thus the 14mpg max hwy mileage they get.

IMO, Greg is spot on with the value. I would say $3500 assuming it runs great, doesn't burn oil or use/leak coolant and has some maintenance history.

Make sure the lockers engage as well, they are quite costly to fix, sometimes it's just exercising them, some times you need to replace the actuator, for lack of the proper term.
Agreed on the price, for the condition $3500 would be Max for me as well.

I was thinking the same, i bought a clean 1996 with locker for 4500, so i would say 3500 is pretty reasonable.

Keep I mind, the folks on this forum are pretty savvy buyers, who know how to find the good deals. I think Greg could have sold his cruiser for more money pretty easily. I've bought four fzj80's, sold three of them, and I would say that without the magic button you would be looking at $3,500, but since its locked you should be able to get $4,500, maybe $5k. Again, maybe not here on the forum, but if you list it around, you'll find a buyer. Of course, that is assuming no major mechanical problems. Good luck.

Probably, but I got a good deal on it and needed to sell it ASAP to upgrade to a 100 Series... it sold within 24 hrs of listing it and both the buyer and myself were happy with the deal.

Agreed, many people do know what things are worth. However, for sheer entertainment few things can beat "What's my vehicle worth?" threads on ih8mud.com. The consensus is that no matter what you are asking, they have all paid way less than that for way better vehicles, and you are crazy in your valuation. However, when it comes to their particular vehicle, they are worth top dollar.

In this particular instance, while distinguishing buyers in this community might pass on a price above $3,500, a simple supply and demand analysis indicates that this vehicle could go for a bit more money. Honestly, how many locked FZJ80's with under 200k miles are floating around for under $5k? In Utah? I monitor the 80 series KSL market pretty carefully, because I have problems, and if you can check those boxes (94-97, locked, sub 200k, $5k or less) they seem to go quick.
