I want to go boating this year and as always we all pay out the nose at the marina gas docks. Just thought I'd ask how the fuel rates are at the lakes for boating this year.

If you've been somewhere or know how much the marina's are getting do tell.

Thanks

Do you trailer your boat to the lakes on each trip or is it docked at a marina already? If you trailer it why not get cheaper gas on the way?

What lakes, besides Powell have public lakeside pumps? It's been several years (5+) since I have been to any lakes around here, but back then none of the lakes had public pumps???

3 weeks ago Lake Powell was 6.50 on the water (Memorial weekend). I'd imagine it's gone up since then. We brought our own gas to fill the house boat, and the weather was so bad we didn't go through the tanks on the boat. If we would have we would have pulled the boat out of the water and up to the gas station on the corner (Bullfrog).

$6.50 at Powell is not as bad as I was thinking it might be now. I taught it may have gone a high as $8.50 there. Thanks Bart!

Fuel on the water is nice convince at times but its only as convent as the cost. Bear Lake, Strawberry, Flaming Gorge and Lake Powell are the ones that always come to mind.

Like you guys I always fuel up before backing it in the water for the first time. Once on the water with the whole family time is everything after all we came to boat.

Most of the time my time is worth more to me with my family than the time it takes and the money you save to:

1>Get the truck and trailer (always parked up the hill)
2>Wait in line for a slot on the loading dock
3>Pull boat out
4>Drive to the land pump
5>Fuel boat
6>Drive back to marina
7>Wait in line to get a launch slot again
8>Pull the truck and trailer out
9>Find a new parking space which by now is ten times farther away than before
10>Return to boat and ski
11>Deal with all the idiots in the marina coming and going!

30 minutes min but more like an hour or more most the time.

But there is always the AMOUNT YOU WONT PAY! Just wandering if my kids go to collage in September or we boat one more day. LOL!

Thanks

Why not get 5gal jugs? That's what we used to do, unless it was a Powell or Flaming Gorge trip where we'd be gone for a long time. We'd still load the houseboat with 5'ers but after the first couple days we'd be forced to fill at the marina. Just for a day at the lake, no way would I fill at the Marina.

If you are burning through a full take of gas plus a day..... you need to get a new boat... I can fish and ski all day on 20-25 gallons of fuel.

Pulling skiers and tubes all day takes more gas as you know than just float fishing or trolling.

We hit the water at 7:00 am and ski almost none stop till sunset. 10 -13 hours with lunch when the water gets to rough. Running a 21' 5.7 V/8 hard all day loaded with 4-7 people on board, 20-40 gals a day is not uncommon.

Going boating is getting almost like going on a trip to Disneyland cost wise now. LOL

I just wanted to see what the cost if fuel is at the marinas/pump stations this year.

We did Powell for Memorial and brought extra fuel. The 2.5 gallons Briggs & Stratton cans fit in my bow like they were made for it. I have a 53 gallon tank plus 37.5 gallons in cans and we burned almost all of it, but we never hit a marina. At $4 per gallon and 2.5 MPG it sure makes wheelin sound cheep :D, but none the less, we are headed back to Powell next weekend :p.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

I couldn't even imagine boating now like we used to. 2 V8s with carbs, and they didn't run on no 85 octane ;)
