Full Roll Cage Cost

Ok so I have the welder and I'm guessing that the RME community is awesome enough that I could probably borrow a tube bender and the help required when the time comes for a full cage. Beer/Soda's and home cooked food from my wife who happens to be an amazing cook would be included...hint, hint.

My question is what would the cost and time estimate be for a full cage on a four door JK if anyone could make a good estimate? This would also be my first time doing a real cage. But I have plenty of time to do as much research and get as much design tips as possible by then.

I'm trying to decide in the next couple months if I should invest in the suspension or the cage when I get home. I'm guessing I will have about a month and a half before OSRC to get everything done and if I decide on one or the other I want it to be done in that time frame.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I just know where my wheeling addiction is taking me and that is towards more and more dangerous styles of wheeling and the the stock sport bar just really isn't enough.

6 point cage with frame tie ins.

Custom front stanchions A pillar $225

Ive got a bender with a 1.5" die you could borrow once 1TonTom is done with his bronco cage, hoping to have a notcher soon too. When do you get back? Not sure if I will have much time to spend helping with school starting here but if I do maybe I could bring over my masterbuilt smoker and we could smoke some ribs or something while we are working on the cage :D

^Agree^

Time is the biggest one for me. I'm still very inexperienced with my bender, and I know it would take me a lot longer than 35 hours, especially on a 4 door JK. This is definitely no walk in the park for a first project. Maybe build some rock rails first?

Great information from UFAB and totally agree with Ben that the learning curve time will more than double the process.

I still have some time to ponder on this for sure. When I get home I will be taking a month off of work which will be all Jeep time during the day since my wife will be at school everyday.

Thanks UFAB for the cost break down.

So if I include learning curve and double the time to complete I'd be at a solid two weeks. That is a serious time commitment.

Thats why I got a quote from UFAB to do one for me, plus I would want to buy a bender which would add more. I think just handing the vehicle to someone and having them do it would save me a ton of frustration, and wasted tubing. Now I just need to find the extra cash lying around

That's why I really wish I had $4K sitting around for a cage.

It may be better with your limited time to do the lift for now then with more expierence welding/working on the jeep possibly when you have more time etc. to do the cage.

I agree that rock sliders bumpers etc are a great starting point for "building" on the jeep.

But hey we all got to start somewhere.

I already built my front bumper. I have sliders and skid plates. A rear bumper is in the plans for sure. Not much actual fab left on a street rig after that other than a cage.

send a pm to UFAB, your quote shouldn't be that high. For the work and the material to do one, the quote I got seemed very reasonable to me.

I was just throwing a crazy number out there really. 4k would be a little high I'm sure. That was 35 hours of labor at $70 an hour so 2450 for labor plus 1200 ish for parts.

I would stick with 1.75" tube with any kind of cage especially in a heavy rig like the JKU...........

Bolt in or weld in sport bar additions are alright but for the cost I could buy pretty much everything I would need to build my own full cage. This is the only reason I'm not really considering bolt/weld in additions.

Keep in mind if you're building your own....you WILL screw up some tube doing it. More at first, then less often as you gain experience. Budget that into your tubing costs. ;)

The biggest thing i found was the time that it takes to do it around 12 hours to finish the back have of mine a couple of weeks ago
