But just because you pass their test does not always mean you are safe. But it may give you ideas of how to improve.

Thanks for the link...

Thats a very good point, most of these scans only scna the most common ports that are open and attacked. Some of the better scans will scan more ports but to actually scan 65,000+ ports that are available would take quite some time.

This will scan 1-65535

I am running both a hardware and software firewall, I am not worried about open ports, more worried about the email attachments my wife opens....

so tell me what happens when Apple starts using intel chips and there is no longer an advantage to using PC over mac for gaming :D...it will just be the software companies that will decide on what platform people game on :p

PS, I dont game so that arguement has nothing on me :D

It's not the hardware that makes mac incompatiable with most games, it's the OS.

It is however the hardware that makes a mac useless for the games that have been ported to it.... just not enough horse power... same goes for video encoding.

The games that mac does have the power to run don't always get ported because the market isn't big enough to invest in.

so you're saying a dual 2.7Ghz PPC isn't powerful enough

power and speed has nothing to do with the games not being on the mac...its a market thing, meaning there is no market for them on the mac (or not enough of a market to justify the hundred of thousands it would cost to port them over, or design them from the beginning)...

and video encoding? What do you mean by that, go into most professional video shops and they wont have a PC sitting on their desks, I'll guarantee that.

The vid card does the lions share of gaming work now, the CPU doesn't really need to be much over 1.8Ghz, and mac compatible vid cards are 3~4 generations behind PC, and still cost more than the latest PC cards. Besides, how many mac users can buy a dual 2.7? ;)

Actually most pro video is done on Silicon Graphics boxes... and they ain't Apple ;) As far as private encoding, AMD will run circles around any Apple in raw frame crunching, but I will grant you that if you are going to use the heavily GUI software for encoding it will run a smidge better on a mac, but you will be waiting longer for the outcome.

yep, the ATI Radeon 9650 and ATI Radeon X850 XT are soooo far behind...and the fact of being able to buy a D2.7 vs. if you can afford a D2.7 are two different things.

My original comment about chips is just this, when the intel chips begin to ship Apple has said they will not stop people from installing windows on the machine so that will then make any game available for PC available for a Mac. I'm not saying mac is king (I know as well as anyone that Mac is not king)...to me there is no king...as I said earlier, whatever works for you is whats best for you. Most people associate Mac with Mac OS...which is not even in the same ballpark as OS X. OS vs. OS X is like comparing windows 3.1 to XP. I also find it funny that whenever something is said about windows, someone always has to chime in with "mac sucks" when most know so very little about Mac and most time its the ones that are making the comment that have never even actually used a mac (besides the display model at CompUSA). I'm done with the XXX vs. Mac debates ;)

I never said mac sucks. The strongest I ever said is that I don't like them. Then I went on to state facts, and even give mac credit where it's due.

My statement that mac doesn't have the power to game could have been explained a bit more I guess. How about, the macs that have the power to game are too expensive to be used for gaming instead of bread making.

As far as bashing, I wont bash anything I don't like... I'll state facts, and I'll state my opinion and try to explain my opinion.

Oh and yes a 9650 is WAY behind the times, and the X850 (assuming it's the same core as the X800's and not missing some pipelines) is quickly fading.

Edit: (I got ' happy there for some reason  )

I'm only kidding. I find this topic illuminating even if it is on the fringe of my comprehension and interests... I think it's information that will become more and more handy the more and more computers take over.
