gear question!!!!

i have a tbi 350, th350, 205t-case
so lets say i run 617-1 gears in my buggy i have a rear dana 70 and a front dana 60...

do they brake?? or do they hold up??

That is going to be a small pinion....

I'd guess they'd hold, depending on exactly how stupid you drive. The 6.17 and 7.17 ratios are meant for industrial applications (like aircraft tugs) so they are made strong. Sometimes they run noisy, not that you would notice or care in a buggy.

Those small pinions make me nervious!!
Like Carl said the are built strong, but the ones I have seen broke, are from shock load....If I had to guess, I would say it is from the pinion flexing, due to the undercut....looked like the head snapped off a match

I have a set of not installed 5.86 gears in my garage, about what you are talking about, and the pinion is still pretty stout looking. I talked to a guy at a UROC event a few years ago with your ratio and he said they held up fine. He was from California and the buggy was basically a K30 frame with the monkey bar set welded on.
