gear question!!!!

look what i can do!!
i have a tbi 350, th350, 205t-case
so lets say i run 617-1 gears in my buggy i have a rear dana 70 and a front dana 60...

do they brake?? or do they hold up??:confused:

I'd guess they'd hold, depending on exactly how stupid you drive. :D The 6.17 and 7.17 ratios are meant for industrial applications (like aircraft tugs) so they are made strong. Sometimes they run noisy, not that you would notice or care in a buggy.

Those small pinions make me nervious!!
Like Carl said the are built strong, but the ones I have seen broke, are from shock load....If I had to guess, I would say it is from the pinion flexing, due to the undercut....looked like the head snapped off a match:eek:

I have a set of not installed 5.86 gears in my garage, about what you are talking about, and the pinion is still pretty stout looking. I talked to a guy at a UROC event a few years ago with your ratio and he said they held up fine. He was from California and the buggy was basically a K30 frame with the monkey bar set welded on.
