It's time to step it up and get more involved in keeping our trails clean. This won't stop SUWA or raise the attention of the governor, but it will raise awareness among other wheelers. Think of it as a start of a bigger movement.
Let's start a monthly service project, focusing on a different area each month.
As much as I'd love to plan every monthly service project, I don't have the time or the bandwidth, and that would defeat the purpose of this initiative. The purpose is to get people out planning projects, rather than just showing up to projects that someone else planned. We will coach people on how to plan a service project and get others involved.
My vision is for a different person to plan a service project each month.
Here are the steps:
1) Use this thread to discuss ideas about what you could do. Your project could be as simple as picking up trash out a 5 mile, or as involved as adding a fence or marking a trail. Don't bite off more than you can chew.
2) When you know what you want to do, pick a date and time and create an "upcoming wheeling trips" thread for it and invite others to participate. I will update post #2 to link to your project.
3) Carry out the project. Take pictures of the trash you collected there and the work you accomplished, maybe some before and after pics. Go wheeling/camping afterwards, have fun, and come back and report with your pictures.
4) Create a trip report afterwards. Post up pictures and talk about the project. This will help raise awareness for future projects.
Not sure how to plan a service project? here is a thread that outlines some good ideas for planning your land use service project.
