ok so I hit a deer about 3 miles north of tremonton last thursday and insurance just checked out my rig today and told me they are totaling it. I am suppose to get a call within 42-78 hours on what I will get back if I keep it versus letting them have it.

My question is, what kind of hell will I need to go through to register a totalled vehicle? what all will I need to do?

If you have the title and hold on to it they will just give you a check for the damage and you keep the rig. Title not branded.
If they just cash you out they get the title than it will be branded total/salvage at the time they dispose of it.

@hiro not sure yet im waiting for a call within 48-72 hours(so by tuesday). I already priced a front clip for $150, readiator for $80, and a grill for $50-100 so not terrible in my mind but if i had it taken to a shop it would be in the thousands the guy said(didnt give me a definate price.
@rollover they told me that if I keep it and they are totalling it I will have to get a new title for it.

keep it and fix it your self but what you need to do is get some quotes from some body shops and as long as the quote dosent exceed the worth of the SUV they give you that much and most likley you'll come out ahead even if you have to get a new title. Keep the pics of the damage so if youdo ever sell it and people ask why its a rebuilt/salvage title you can show them that it really wasnt that bad

Not true. Even if you hold the title and they cut you a check for it, they still report it to the state and it will show a salvaged title in the system. I was hoping it worked the other way around when my wife totaled our Grand Prix two winters ago. We had the title, when we sold the car the new title was a rebuilt/salvaged title.

now once I do this im thinking of getting a cherokee or a 4runner so I have more room for my growing family. You guys think I can get one by trading once this gets fixed?
