I had a chance to get out on the DR today.
I rode from my house in pg over AF Canyon, through Heber past Timberlake. The road East of Heber was awesome.
Took that past Mill Hollow Reservoir to Wolf Creek pass. Stopped at my grandmother's cabin near woodland, Then headed over to Kamas for lunch at Mirror Lake diner. Then headed home through Francis past jordanelle.

Weather was amazing. The scenary was beautiful and the DR performed excellent. I was testing my new Afx Helmet and diy windshield. Both performed awesome.

Awesome, that's a great trip for the DR! Looks like you have a great time... how many miles?

Ordered/installed a new front tire. The tire that came on it was a Kenda 761. It was awesome for the street and not too bad for dirt but I have ridden the K270's on my dad's KLR and they are a much better 50/50 tire so I went with one in a 3.25/21. Took it for an alpine loop test ride last night. It handles the road pretty well. I can feel a little bit of tread flex when really leaning over and breaking hard but totally acceptable. Bike has 3,700 miles on it now. We'll see how many more I get out of the D606 rear. It's holding up really well and I am really impressed with its road manners.

With the factory tank, the range on the DR is limited to 140 miles and that is unacceptable. So today I got my early Christmas present. 5.3 gallons of freedom.

Looks good! With my 4.9 IMS tank I was getting about 220-230 miles IIRC and that is just about perfect.

Hummm.... impeccable timing. :D I have a new thread to start about a recent acquisition... :greg:

Thanks Von, I have been surprised how well it works.

I got a chance to ride some single-track South of Eagle mountain today with the new tank. It's a beast but still manageable. This is the hardest I have pushed the DR since I bought it.
The suspension is my next upgrade. I think I'll go with stiffer Springs soon.

That said, it's amazing I can ride stuff like this and cruise 65 down the asphalt. This bike really is a Swiss army knife.

I rode some singletrack with my old DR650, with the 8 gallon tank and luggage... it wasn't great.

Procycle has a 'Fork Solution' kit for the DR that makes huge upgrades for just over $300, it sounds pretty good and should really let the stock forks work much better than they do from the factory. - http://www.procycle.us/bikepages/dr650.html#suspension

I put RMZ forks on my old DR and while it was a huge upgrade in performance, I think this time around I'm going to do the above kit instead.

I've looked at that kit on procycle. I think I'll do that and the shock upgrade. I've looked at the rmz swap but this bike is all about cheap and simple. I don't want to get $5k invested in a $2500 bike.

I hear ya... the RMZ swap comes with it's own headaches too, like loosing the steering lock, having to add some kind of steering stops, etc, etc.

I also think I expect a lot less from this bike than some people I see on other forums. I have a race bike and if I want to pound whoops or clear 70ft tables I ride it. When I want to comfortably explore, I ride the DR. Bikes are like golf clubs. I love this bike but would hate to be limited to it exclusively. I guess I'm polyamorous when it comes to motorcycles

The DR got some new fanny packs for Christmas. Currently deciding whether to fab up some racks or just buy them. I'm itching for a long trip. Too bad a bunch of people wished for a white Christmas.
