As part of my various electronics tinkering, I've been repairing these for some time whenever I come across people who need it done.
On basically all GM vehicles from like 2000-2010 the needles will become glitchy, stuck, or just stop working.
The stepper motors GM used are prone to failure for whatever reason so the OEM has created a new replacement part that fixes this failure. I also usually find at least one burned out backlight. The dealership wants like $500 to replace the cluster, the Dorman replacement is like $400, and both need the mileage re-programmed in.
I replace ALL of the failure-prone stepper motors with the new upgrade part, and any burned out backlights for the RME only price of $80.
I can do them the same day.
I can also fix burned out or dim digital displays (gear indicator, odometer, driver information, etc.) And I can do LED backlight upgrades.
