Great day exploring some new trails (new to me)... Olly, Cody, and I hopped in my Tacoma and hauled A back up to where Olly and I had left off the week before.

Our goal was to try and connect the Gold Hill/Whitney Lake area with Smith & Morehouse Canyon, just as we suspected (thanks to fourdoor jeep)... the trail has a gate... so we continued to the next connector road (marked in my GPS) and it also was gated, this one indicating it crossed private property. We could see tracks that lead down throught the canyon, but you know... responsibility... ;)

We then headed further North, and over to Whitney Lake (which is surprisingly ~50' low... checked out the USFS Ranger Station (Warming Hut) and headed back out baja style to HW150, stopped and checked out the Upper Provo River Falls  and bombed back into Kamas, and SLC.

Great trip!

Pics to come... ;)

Was Moffit Pass one of the routes down into S&M ?

Kindve, you go over Moffits Pass, and you can look right down into S&M Canyon... there is big USFS (Locked Gate ahead sign, etc)... but if you continue on Moffit's Pass, you end up at the N end of Whitney Lake... so it is a big loop... Look at the topo, right where is says Moffits Pass, is where the turnoff to S&M canyon lies...

Yes, Topo's don't show the road, but it is there and OPEN to OHV use...

You want me to email you my tracklog & waypoint list?

What Topo software are you using? That road is on mine and so it the other lake.

AllTopo Utah, I may need to update, but it is as current as the latest USGS maps... What are you using?

Can you post a pic of yours?

Sure enough, my topo software does not show that road, this is the first that I have encountered as such... I am going to update my software and see if that fix's the problem... I really like the Utah AllTopo, it is easy to use, and interfaces with my GPS really easily...

FYI I just checked and that map is a fairly recent map (sorry about the bad pic quality.... I really need to invest in a host...)
