Good news for those w/ manual transmissions.

While I was at a car dealership this week, I was letting the salesman drive my truck around so he could give me a trade-in value. I told him all the fluids were changed recently except the trans...and then came the good news! He told me that you never have to change the oil in a manual transmission! Since they are totally sealed, no water can contaminate the oil, and since no combustion takes place in there, there is no carbon buildup. He also said that since it's not hydraulic fluid like in an auto, there is no heat buildup to break down the oil either. Man, this will come as great news to all the millions of drivers who change theirs at regular intervals. Pass it on!

WRONG! The guy specifically said "no combustion takes place in there." I think if it was the same oil, he wouldn't have said that.

Yeah, it's getting hard to find the right viscosity of vegetable oil though. I think safflower is like 60 wt, but that's still a little light. Wait, you bake cakes? Woo Hoo! Partay!

Ok, ok. It was at Menlove Dodge Toyota. I actually don't mind them too much as a dealership, but it really depends on the salesman you get there. I've dealt with probably 5 or 6 up there, and it seems about half of them are idiots and half are great to work with. The 16 valves on a V6 incident was at Karl Malone Toyota. I've never had a good experience with a salesman at ANY Larry Miller dealership. For the record, Mark Miller Toyota has been my favorite dealer for 'Yoters. BTW, does anyone on this board work at Menlove? I saw a 1st gen 4Runner on 35s parked out front.
