GoPro Mount

I wasn't sure if I should put this in chit chat or not. I picked up a GoPro yesterday and am wondering what mount you guys have been using for your crawlers. I am considering using one of the adhesive mounts it came with and mounting it to the exterior of my windsheild. They make a roll bar mount for $30 but that seems a little steep. If the adhesive mounts have been failing then I will pay the $30 so I don't ruin my $200 dollar camera. Let me know what works.

Thanks.

I have a suction cup mount that I've used on glass and sheet metal before. That said, their adhesive mounts are VERY strong, if you apply them following the directions. I have an adhesive mount for my helmet when dirtbiking and it's lasted quite awhile, I think it would take a lot to make that adhesive fail.

the suction cup mount is great, i wouldn't worry about it to much unless your racing or bouncing at higher speeds. just wipe off the area, dry it and mount. I let a friend use it and he tried to pull it off(without releasing the cup) and it actually creased the fender on his Geo... :ugh:

I have used the suction cup while jumping a RZR at the dunes. It seems to hold rather well. I stick it to the number plate of the pw50 also. I have had it fall 1 time, but it was most likely my fault. I would not hesitate to use it on a buggy windshield at all. You could even tether it to the wipers or roll bar just in case.

That is some great footage. The spring clamp is a a great idea. Where did you get one that is strong enough not to wiggle around? I thought about trying to fab a mount that is connected to a worm drive hose clamp.

I am not sure where I got it, but it is a metal one, not plastic. I drilled a hole for a safety cable, but have not put that on yet. The best part is being able to move it around. I used the swivel that came with the mount from the suction cup.

I've had an adhesive mount on my helmet for a few rides and it's holding up great! I actually thought it would fail because the outer edges of the round mount aren't attached because the mount is flat and the helmet is round.....probably about 1/2 of the mount is actually stuck to the helmet, and it's ON THERE. I've tried pulling it off and it was STUCK!

I purchased the Motorsports kit which came with the suction cup mount and a handful of 3M secured mounts. I've never had a failure on either, I've used the suction mount on my windshield and body panels with no issues. I even smacked a bush with the GoPro while it was suctioned to my door, while bombing down a dry wash in Sand Hollow at about 30mph......scratched the lens on the housing but the camera never moved. We wakesurfed at Powell this year with the GoPro suctioned to the surfboard nose and it never came loose.

I like the flexibility of positioning with the suction cup mount, as well as with the tube mount.

Good info. Thanks.

alright, I did not read through the entire thread so forgive me if this has been covered.

I bought my Son a go pro 4 black. I got two extra batteries ($20 each) so that helps on the time.

He is using it for a few activities and I would like to know which mounts you all have used and like for different activities.

1. snowboarding - he is using a helmet mount. seems good, footage alright. Any better options?

2. fly fishing - chest mount gets in the way of vest/pack and don't want to wear a helmet. Maybe a head strap of some sort? (like a headlamp?)

3. Hunting - Turkey specifically. This is one of the reasons I bought it. (for me) these hunts are fun when on film. barrel mount?

4. Motorcycling - helmet mount currently. Better options?

5. Backpacking - chest? hook it to pack somehow?

I am excited to get feedback. The mounting system seems really important to make sure we use it a lot.

Thanks!
