So anyways, after rolling the XJ, K9Lowe was gracious enough to loan us his 02' WJ Overland while he's deployed to the sandbox.

However nice a friend is I dont like to take advantage of his generosity, so we baught a 90' YJ last night......Not much than stock, but I can see already that the carbed 4.2 is going bye-bye and the spare 4.0HO is going Hello!

Now since I am no YJ wizard by any means, does anyone, Drew, anyone want to tell me what it takes for a SOA? I know since my days as a teen doing a redneck SOA on a scout, things are different to do it right.

What steering issues are there with the SOA? I have a set of the 5/8" flip inserts and pitmans form my XJ that I never used, will I, or should I be able to use them still with the YJ?

Is my best route to just buy the RE bracket and brake kit or peice it together and do it that way?

Edit: Did I mention the search option %^$#! A search for SOA braught up about 150 hits without one of them being close to what I needed, even though I know this has been covered a hoop of times....

Brian, I'm no YJ guru.....(played one once on TV) but were it me, I'd be looking into a SOA rear and a coilover/LA setup in the front. Push the rear axle back and the front forward to gain some wheelbase.
How's that for a delicious breakfast?

You probably already know this but if you do a SOA and consider moving the axles it would probably be worth your time to swap out the D35 rear axle for a Ford 8.8/Dana44/D60 while doing all that? Sounds like a good project. Would like to know how the 4.0L swap goes. Good luck.

I'd also like to hear how's best to do this. I'm planning something to that extent this summer. I'm pretty much doing just what Mark Bryson's doing with waggy springs in the front to push the front axle forward a few inches and XJ leafs in the rear to push it back like 3 or 4.

So far I think my first to do as I do the SOA, is to swap in the spare XJ 8.25/30 I have in the garage so I can eliminate the 35/30 thats in there.

Also Jeff, or Cody cant remember which one took em, still have those grey XJ buckets? If so can I have em back, lol.

The buckets went to my neighbor......he wound up buying a set of Corbeau's so I'll see what he did with the XJ seats.......DD my keister, my suggestion was to improve the daily ride and make it work great offroad too, ymmv. Better do a full cage before anything........

Is this thread still about SOA YJs? If so, I've done it before. The rear is simple, just weld on spring perches to the top of whatever axle you choose, once you get the pinion angle set to whatever you want. Then weld on some shock tabs. The front is the same process, but you have steering issues to deal with. With a springover on a YJ your drag link ends up trying to occupy the same space as your passenger side spring. You can resolve the conflict with a bent drag link, but this will result in unending ridicule and ass-kickings. The better solution is some sort of high-steer arm on the passenger side. A 44 with a flat-top knuckle would work, or there are some high-steer arms available for the dana 30. On my dad's YJ I used a Tera outter knuckle with a high-steer arm that seems to work great. I don't think they make them any more though.

Brian, let me come down and you can take a look at Frankenstien. That should give you some ideas. It's really not that tough of a process. The hardest thing I did was bleed the brakes. ;)

We could get it done in a weekend if you had the new antiwrap perches and the misc bolts that I talked to you about on the phone.. just in case they are siezed or broken. Good to have a spare also. I could even let you *steal* a spring from one of my packs I have sitting around.

LET'S DO IT!!! SOA rocks!

I know where you can get a front D44 like mine for ~80 bucks W/Flat top knuckles...

If he doesn't want it put me in line. I've got to do the same project. I've got a 9" for the rear but I need something for the front.

Funny story for this conversation. The SOA will still be going in but on a CJ-5 using sprungover toy axles, not a YJ like planned.

I went back to pick the YJ up, the night before someone knocked out the side window, so the dealer guys give me a certificate to run down and have it replaced and retinted while they finish the paperwork. I make it, no BS 40ft out of the driveway, and BOOOOOM!

The engine seized and blew, lol. Needless to say I ran as fast as I could and tore up the agreement of sale......

I pick the CJ's up tonight, and atart tomorrow on getting the duke to breath life again.

Kenneth, Drew, up for a meeting in the Man Office saturday?

If I don't go wheeling on Saturday (well, ride along) I'd be up for helping you out at the house.

Maybe I could use your drill while I'm there?

Need to attach those mudflaps you gave me. I'm also working on fender flares made from Six States trucker flaps.
