GPS POLL!!!!!!

Yes, there is a reason why I am asking this so please be honest.

This is a simple one: Do you have a GPS. I assume if you have one you know how to use it, or could learn quickly. If you wish you can reply to the thread and state which unit you have and your opinion of the whole GPS thang.

I bought a garmin a couple of years ago to use with one of the offroad books for trail finding... The trails in the books were mostly lame. I can say i rarly use the gps at all. Now if you were routing out new trail I cold see it being usfull. I did use it at the u4wda trail run this summer and it helped out a tone..... So all in all im glad i have it but i wouldent recommend just running out and buying one for ****s and giggles.

Thanks for your feedback, keep it coming!

When you can turn your GPS on when wheeling, come home, plug it into your computer and plot your route onto a topo map on the computer it gets really kewl real quick! I've also pulled points off the map that I want to find and use the GPS to find it. Pretty neat.

That is mainly what I would want one for. I also want one that is capable of recording my speed.

I actually use mine as a speedo alot more than I use it for plotting points... Mine is an older version that dosent do all the cool computer plotting stuff...

Funny you mention that, I used mine to calibrate my new jeep speedo with exact accuracy for my tire size. Neat stuff! Not to mention using it to calculate average speed whilst running rally races!

I have one but I really don't know how to use it. It's an old one and it doesn't plug into the computer. I've played around with it a few times, like on Hole N Rock trail and all, but just bascially sits on the shelf. I need a GPS class! :D

I'm just getting into the GPS thing. We picked one up earlier this year. It's nice to be able to mark your position when you find something out in the middle of nowhere and be able to just give coordinates to friends for them to find the same place.

Really handy to mark your camp / vehicle for when you go out hiking and get yourself lost.

I have the Garmin ETrex Legend and am very pleased with it. I use it quite often. I use it to find trails I have found on Microsofts Terra Server. I have used it to find trails from other 4 wheel boards. I download my tracks to my computer and keep a map of all the trails I have done.

It once saved me. I got stuck once. I gave my location and he found me rather quickly considering I was way off the beat and path.
