Grenaded a hub, suggestions?

Went wheeling over the weekend and grenaded a hub (stock ones on a 86 CJ-7). Probably my fault becuase upon inspection they bolts were loose. So now I got a blown hub and 3 of the 5 bolts sheered off.

What is the best replacement? I called around and some one suggested to get parts from a earlier 78-80 CJ and buy some 5 bolt hubs for a more strenght.

Or should I just bolt on a new aftermarket set and be done?

Yep,

And instead of using bolts, use studs and nuts. That will help the loosening effect

OR, get the calipers, brackets/backing plates, spindles, hubs from a mid 70's-late 80's chev 1/2 ton, and the wheel hubs and rotors from a 76-86 ford 1/2 ton. Then some nice internal spline hubs and no more problems....

Or if your real lucky you can find all the parts to do the above on an FSJ, but very few were 5 lug, most were 6....I am not sure of the years off the top of my head....

Or just like Shawn said, get studs and use some loc-tite....

you want the 6 bolt hubs not the 5 bolt hubs.

Is it woth the time and $$. If I upgrade the lockouts what is the next weak link in the chain (stock u-joints, etc). I plan on swaping a D44/D60 in the future but I still want to wheel it now

The pre 81 6bolt CJ hubs are worth the trouble. Don't buy new 5 bolt replacements. I went down that road twice in the first year I owned my CJ. The third time I converted to the 6 bolt ones and had no more hub problems ever. There are better/stronger options (The chevy outers, or the Warn internal kit) but why spend more to polish the 30. All you need are the hubs and new lockouts. Your discs will work fine with the earlier hubs.

The upgrade JY parts I desribed will work on a 44....they are from a 44....
For a 60, about all that might work, depending on what you build, would be the calipers....

True. A suggestion might be to purchase a good junkyard Chevy 44(around $150) Use the outer parts you need and save your pennys to narrow and lock/gear the rest.

My D30 is already locked and geared. I don't want to drop too much $$$ into the turd and save it for a D44/60 swap. That being said I will put some cash and time into it to keep it alive and functional untill the swap.

So where is the best place to find the older style Cj hubs? Sounds like a bolt on

I've got a lonely front 10 bolt in the backyard. I know they share a LOT of the outer parts with D44.

The problem is it lacks the spindles needed to run the ford 5 0n 5.5 hubs. It also came after the pasenger flat top needed if hysteer is in his future.
