looking for options for grinder wheels. my favorite by far was the harbor freight #6674. they lasted for awhile and removed alot of material really quick. they have since switched to new part that I have heard is junk. I have used the dewalt blades that last forever but also take forever to remove material. the black and Decker blades are ok but also are slow to remove the material. .what other options experience out there?

I almost never use grinder wheels anymore, but I like the sanding discs I've gotten from airgas, and flap wheels from Roark Supply. Looking now, Roark carries the same sanding discs I use here: http://www.roarksupply.com/Zirconia-Blue-Resin-Fiber-Sanding-Discs-p/zircresinfiber.htm

I use the 36 grit ones. You'll need a backing plate for them. Kinda spendy, but fairly awesome. :) The only time a grinding wheel trumps them is if you need to use the edge of the grinding wheel rather than the surface.
 
I'll second the use of flap wheels. It's so much easier to control the amount of material removed and it's much easier to get a good finish with them and they still remove enough material to make them well worth it.
 
Most of the Roark discs I've used have been awesome... I think they have an RME discount as well, have to check their thread in Vendors area.

what kind of backing plate? flat grinder blade? I will give then a try.
 
I like the flap disc to smooth it out but need to remove alot if material quick. I haven't noticed different grit flaps but I will look into it
 
For hard wheels spend the money. More material removed in less time means less work. Time is money in the biz world.

Sait has good hard wheels 4.5in

Soft wheels. Sanding disc with backing plate. Sait makes the best backing plates. Solid rubber balanced. Cast thread insert.

36 grit soft wheel will move material quicker than some hard wheels. 50 grit is a good all around disc

Flapper wheels are for desired users. I think they gouge to much. Not good for blending and having flat surface.


We usually use soft wheels.
