Gunbelt talk - Excellent carry belt I've come across

Just wanted to share the info on a belt I recently purchased after a recommendation on another site.

Now it's not specifically made to be a gun belt, but I haven't worn a belt as supportive as this in a long time, mostly because you can get the exact tightness & comfort the way the buckle works. Holds my IWB perfectly in place all day long, I'm no longer having it creep back from 3:30 to 4:30 on me now. I feel like I could hang some extra gear off this belt with no problems. It's also made me much less aware of my carry as well...

The material might be familiar to this crew. It's basically a double layer limit strap around your waste. Doesn't stretch like many leather belts either. Best of all it's made in Colorado.

Anyways, hope somebody finds it useful.

wow, thanks! I've been looking for a decent belt! I'll have to put a couple of these on the Christmas list! Is it thick enough for a holster clip to grab it well?

I've just picked up the 5.11 tactical belt at Scheels. I think it's a nylon webbing with a feel steel inserts. It's 1.75" wide and about 1/4" thick. Makes carrying with the StealthGear holster much more comfortable.

It's pefect for the clips. Another thing I love about it (which I thought was going to be a problem at first) is when you loop the end part back through, it will actually velcro over the top of your forward holster clip keeping it right in place. No more migrating holster. Seriously, it's almost like this belt was made for IWB. :D

Nice! I've actually never noticed my holster migrating throughout the day. Part of the reason I think is that the SG holster materials don't slide easily against pants...never really thought about it. What kind of holster do you have that does this?

I bet you are right. Mine's a crossbreed. My last two leather belts allowed it to slip slightly back enough to where I'd want to adjust it about twice a day.

hmm, Do you think it's enough of an annoyance to you to be worth while adding to my website as something that people will see as a "plus" of the ONYX holster?

sorry for the hijack!

Those of you that are carrying your gun using a normal belt, Let me tell you that you will be much more comfortable, and the gun will feel much more secure, with a propperly fitting belt that is designed to carry a gun. The stiffness and resistance to torsional flex will ensure that the gun rides the way the holster was designed to hold it.

Even a high dollar holster will feel like crap if used in conjunction with an inadequate belt.

I have 1 high dollar hand made gun belt from HBE leatherworks, and a few belts from 5.11 tactical that I rotate through. They make all the difference.

I don't have a web gun belt, but have always wanted to try one. I'm considering the Blackhawk instructors belt though.

I would say yes, but I would certainly try it out for yourself first.

I agree. I've had self proclaimed gun belts that really haven't done the trick either... pretty much why I'm impressed with how well this belt works for the price. The double strap is very stiff and supportive on me.

How was the sizing Shane?

Run big?

I got the medium (~38" Waist) which is about 2 sizes big (I hover around 34" to 36") and it's perfect. This belt would probably bottom out at 32".
I just noticed, ignore the amazon size chart that pops up, it's wrong. The Bison size chart is in the bullet list below the price.

A true gun belt makes all the difference. I have a sharkskin belt made by UBG holsters in SLC. He makes top notch stuff. I have been wearing this belt for a couple years and it still looks new. I think I paid $70 for it but I expect it to last 10 years.

That is very similar to the belts that came with some EMT-style cargo pants i bought a while back... but that velcro deal is pretty rad. Thanks for the link!

I've been using those for years. Mine has the ability to use the front loop to repel and climb with. I would never do that if I went climbing but I have used it a couple of times when I didn't have my harness and had to belay someone. I got mine from 5.11 tactical. It has a 6000 pound rating.

Mine showed up today.

I got the Large size and apparently Im not as large as I thought. Its to long for the velcro to catch. I love the belt tho. I will probably have my Mom do some surgery to it rather than send it back for a medium
