Gusset Knuckles done

Built a huge fire to make some coals and tossed the knuckles in to get hot

Once up to temp, the gussets were welded on using a Lincoln Mig welder

Then a two foot hole was dug placing a bed of coals and then the knuckles and then covered with coals....filled the rest of hole with sand

After a little more that 24 hours dug up the knuckles they were still over 100 degrees....No cracks.... will clean up using a 60 grit flop disc and paint

Will post up pics of painted knuckles when done

Damn, that's a sweet idea.

In the past I've just used a huge rosebud tip and heated it that way. Never had one crack but I suspect your way is better.
