Despite the triple digits, there was 6 of us who showed up to get a run under our belts this summer on Hanging Tree Trail in Ephraim UT on Saturday.... let me tell ya the day started out warm and didn't let up the whole time! There was very little water running down the trail again this year, but the we did see the benefits of some shade up the canyon and while we stopped for action we were able to stay tolerably cool. We met at Maverick around 9:30 and were on the trail from 10:45 till almost 5pm when we loaded up the trailers. We decided to take the high road out and to skip the pavement by following the trail back to the trailers for some hi speed whoops!!! fun stuff!!!
The trip was not to be trouble free... just as most hanging tree run are! before we got the the HTT sign, Sean with his XJ lost a rear diff drain plug doh!!! Several folks back tracked and found the little bugger and promptly put it back in. After that Cam with his red buggy was having an issue with his front driver\35 spline hub staying locked in... he removed it and got it back on and locked in so we started back on the trail again.
A few obstacles later Jeff pulled his drive shaft apart on a hard obstacle while rolling backwards with a shackle reverse modification, so we spent the time putting it back together by cleaning up the end of the DS splines with a chisel and file. When we started moving again Seans XJ decided to spit an ear off the rear pinion yoke and Dallas had an issue where his hydro ram was oozing some fluid... .we got the ram fixed and the yoke repaired to hold the ujoint together and the duo planned their way back down.
At that time we ran into rockreligious on his motorcycle and bs'd for a while. So now on to the 1st big obstacle where I tried with the FJ without much luck and slid off the obstacle and worked my way a bit farther driver to an easier portion. Jeff and Cam both tried the harder lines on this obstacle without luck either! After cam gave it his final attempt the front driver hub made a loud pop and the tire stopped turning so he decided to turn around here as well. Cheston was last up and made short work of the climb by moving a bit farther towards the passenger side of the obstacle and a nice shot of healthy horsepower. The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful, at the end of the trail all three of use attempted the waterfall and only one of us made it up, good times for sure giving it a healthy romp though!
We decided to head out the top and I showed the guys the area where the new section of the trail is although we were a bit worn out and didn't even go look at the obstacle's. We baja'd it down and took the fire road trail back to the trailers hitting the whoops about 40 and what a rush and a nice way to close out the trip! It was def a victory for the three of us to make it out and back on the trailers under our own power! I needed to stop in Fairview so I took 89 home with Jeff and I must say it was a way more scenic route to travel... so in conclusion if your planning on hitting the trail this year you can be rest assured it will be a pretty dry atmosphere vs other years. Sorry guys I didn't get many pics at all, but here are a few from facebook.... if ya have any please feel free to share them!
