No, you need a cut-off wheel, not cut the wheel off. If you have access to an acetylene torch, that will work too. The secret is there's tapered washers around the studs. Some heat and some good hard licks with a hammer will pop em loose sometime. Otherwise, split the arm with a cut off wheel right near each stud and that will let them pop loose as well.

He didn't mean to cut your wheel, he meant use a "cutoff wheel" in your grinder. There are cone-shaped tapered insert things in the holes of your steering arm, so they won't want to let the arm come off easily. Hit it a lot with a big hammer, and if you can't get it loose start cutting chunks off with the cutoff wheel. Just don't mess up the threaded studs, unless the new steering arm came with new ones.

AAHHHHH the steering arm. Indeed, that does have more than 1 nut or bolt. :D

Yeah, you have to beat the ever-loving snot out of those to get the cone washers to break free most of the time. I mean, like, more than you would think. Heat is good too, lets you beat a little less.... those cone washers can really be hell to break loose.

In the past this is what i have done. I use a Crapload of PB Blaster (A necessity for gettin rusted nuts/bolts apart) let it soak in a few days reapplying a few times then get a 6 lb sledge with a socket that fits over the stud but still makes full contact with the cone and beat the crap outta it until it pops loose some are worse than others but it will eventually pop. Gl its a pain in the arse :(

I'm not familiar with Chevy front ends, so don't know if this will work. Here is what I have done on studs that have the cone washers. Get a brass punch (soft, won't damage threads) and a hammer. Put the punch on the studs, and wack with the hammer. The vibrations will knock the cone washers loose. It has worked like a charm on Toyota hubs that have the cone washers.
I hope I made sense.

I've tried everything listed and there are 2 options that were not listed.

One is lossen the nuts then drive around the block...slowly this sometimes pops the conical washers loose but it's a crapshoot sometimes it doesn't work:-\

What has worked the best for me is...Heat the sh!t out of the washers with a torch, just be careful not to let them get hot enough to start melting...then spray with water they pop right up:D No BFH required:greg:
