Down here in St. George is a trail/dirt road that leads to the grand canyon. It is a bit of a trip, slow going but nothing technical. You do get to hit he canyon at a spot where you can camp alone with no tourist issues and get some amazing sites.

I haven't made it to the end yet. When I found the trail we just headed out to see what we were going to run into. The next time I get 2 or 3 day off the family will be camping out there on the rim.:beer

Can you perhaps provide detailed directions where that trail is? Sounds interesting and am considering taking that trail to the Grand Canyon with a friend. The last time I went there, it was with a tour group (yeah I know - boring), so I believe that the trail you mentioned would provide more excitement in getting to grand canyon.

From Brigham Road, turn onto South River Road aka Az Strip Road. Drive south until you get to the grand canyon. you can take any side road you want and if you keep going south, you will get to the grand canyon. Many many options, all are worth it. Buy an Az Strip map at the BLM office and it can help you find some of the cooler spots. Or just go out there and explore cause its cool country,

Yup. The picture above is Toroweap. Just take River Road south, a left at Mt. Trumbull, then a right on the Toroweap road and you're there. I drove it last month, all good graded county dirt. We made a few side trips and stops along the way, but driving straight through it would only be two or three hours.
