Well after coming back from moab, I notice some of my heims have some visable play in them. I'm thinking any play is bad, is that right?

yep, I think the tolerance limit is around 6kths linear travel so if you can feel it in the joint it's too much.

I always kinda figured heims and sand don't play well together. No experience here, but that's just my view on them. They seem to wear out fast.

Yeah I think they were on the way out before now they are pretty noticable, even hear it clanking a little under load back and forth. I've got a couple tie rod ends and about 3 heims that need attetion plus one bent dana 44 hysteer arm. Any body ever bend the arm, mine is pretty noticable.:ugh:

yes I have, bent it bad enough to break the front bolt, stretched the second bolt about 1/4" and the third held fine.

I have a upper hiem making noise on mine also and it has a little side to side movement as well. Just been to lazy to fix it.

I had a heim with a little play in it. Then the ball pulled out the end everything went boom. Change them before everything goes boom.

You've been wheeling the wee out of that thing, so I'm not too shocked that the joints are worn.

You might consider stepping up to a nice chromoly joint, they'll probably last longer than the ones you have now. Something along the lines of these, in whatever size you have. (if I remember right, they're 3/4-5/8", so XM10-12 as listed there.

Well I got in there today to swap them out, and I thought I'd just use the same jam nuts, but no go the inbard lower control arms on the rear heims were bent like no other. So new jam nuts tomorrow i guess.
