I'm new to the forum but not entirely new to off road adventures. I just recently picked up a 2001 jeep wrangler with low (for the year) miles and a lot of extras, so I thought I'd sign up for this board. I found RME looking for GPS maps of some trails around the Salt Lake area since that is also where I am located. I went out to five mile for the first time last weekend with a friend and had a blast. I'm looking at providence canyon and some connecting trails up north this week. I'm just looking to setup a list of trails and camp sites for the summer.

I don't have a great deal of in depth knowledge when it comes to the mechanics of a jeep, I do understand the basics but I've never been one to wrench on my own ride. I am however looking to grow as a 4x4 driver and learn some of the more nuanced pieces of driving off road. I'm working on picking the right lines and understanding the limitations of my vehicle at this point. I've been looking into proper winching angles and procedures since the jeep I have happens to have a winch on it and I don't have experience using one personally. So basically I am here to chat, learn, and have a good time.

Welcome to the group! I'm glad you found us. RME is a fantastic resource to help you accomplish your goals.

BTW, where exactly do you live? Putting that info in your profile (in the Location box) will help us know what to suggest for nearby trails and such.

Also, how modified is your Jeep? You say you have a winch; which model is it? What size tires? Anything you can share will be appreciated.

It took me a while to get back to this thread. I live in Salt Lake City so I'm generally looking at trails within 60 miles or so of SLC. However, I do plan to do a run down to the maze in the canyonlands in the fall. While I'm there I might as well hit up a couple trails in moab too.

As far as my jeep goes, it is a 2004 jeep wrangler ultimate (I've heard it called an LJ). I have a 6 inch lift, 33" tires, quick disconnects in the front, aftermarket bumpers, rock rails, skid plate, and the winch I mentioned earlier. I think the gearing is stock but I'm not entirely sure as I bought the vehicle used so I didn't put all of the mods on it myself. I'm looking to work up to doing more difficult trails, I have some off road experience but this is the first jeep I've personally owned. So far I've found some trails at fivemile and a few things around American fork canyon and Provo.

I do have a couple friends with jeeps that like to go wheeling so I don't have to do any of these trails solo. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Sounds like a fun Jeep, Taoist. There's enough at Five Mile and up in AFC to keep anybody busy for a summer or two.

Hello, im also a new member here. I'm trying to learn how to navigate the site. Care to share where to start off? Im looking for how to's about modifying my ride.

My suggestion would be don't, at least not yet. Try starting your own intro thread and let us know what you're driving and where you want it go, folks will be able to give you more specific advice.
