ok so Jeep replaced the passenger side wheel bearing on my piece of crap D30. then i got the death wobble. they were too busy to see me so they said rotate the tires. i did. even worse now. so i tightened all the track bar and greased everything. even took out the UCAs and gave em a nice clean. still bad!! took it into American Car Care and they didn't find anything wrong. so what could possibly be wrong? i HAVE to leave for moab tomorrow morning so if someone really smart could give me some ideas to tell Jeep tomorrow i'd give you a big KISS

when my wheel bearing went out it just wore the brakes funny. then they sold me the wrong one lasted two weeks. what did car care check? that axle shaft has to be really tight or you will blow the bearing out again.

I would deffinitely check out the ball joints like Marc said...then go to the rest of your steering linkage (checking for play) and then check you box...

i think you should have told the jeep people you want to be seen right now. if it was not wobbling when you took it in it something they did wrong they should have seen you. jack the jeep up and wiggle the tire from the top and the bottom if it does then more then likely the axle bolt is not tight enough.

my steering linkage is cracking and popping worse than usual. i've tried to avoid the D30 until now so i'm not sure what to look for. anyone feel like coming over to BYU tonight to help me diagnose it?

EDIT: here's two vids if you can see anything wrong with it. driverside pass.side

Mine is always the trac bar bracket, on the xj there is 4 bolts, check to see if those are loose, hope this helps!

holy crap that trip down to moab and back was AWESOME!!! 35-40 range was pretty bad and anything over 59 was impossible. i greased up the trac bar super good and made sure it was always tight before heading out. Currie is sending me a replacement for free so that could still be the source, but i doubt it. i'm gonna take it in to see if the toe is on. that's still an unknown. in the meantime the tires have kinda worn in so no more death wobble. well it was fun while it lasted :D.

Oooh, oooh! I have a guess--mud stuck to the inside of the rims, throwing them out of balance?

BTW, if that (or anything similar) was the cause, that is NOT the same thing as Death Wobble.

nope... well maybe... ok fine you convinced me. my big ol swampers didn't like the BB's and would only balance with weights. i know a rock will take them off sooner or later but until then i can go as fast as my little jeep can muster.

it was death wobble but that was with the tires up to 16.5 oz out of balance AND with a slightly loose trac bar :D. then once i fixed the whole steering it went down from code orange to code yellow.
