good feedback Andrew, thanks. I would think a 2500 would be sprung too stiff for the type of offroading I do. Thoughts?

Better shocks all around and altering/changing the rear spring pack would probably do wonders. I usually drop it to ~35psi off road which helps a lot that way I can still drive some highway and not feel too bad about it.

well, the truck has officially sold so I'm without a 4x4 until I find my next vehicle. I'm pretty sold on the 2001-2006 Monteros. If you know anyone that has one that would be willing to sell, please let me know.

@ Greg, you've had a v8 runner and now you have a 100 series. Anything you didn't like about the runner? I've owned a 100 series, and I loved the vehicle except for the cost of parts.

Similar vehicles, the biggest difference I see is the size and weight. The 4.7 in the 4Runner makes it silly quick... and the same engine is a 100 Series makes it bearable, but sometimes not quite enough. Loaded up for a long trip you notice how much larger the 100 Series inside, we were pretty cramped in the 4Runner... the available space fills up fast. The 100 Series we have has a lot of miles and is lifted, but it's very loose feeling on the road... soft suspension. The 4Runner was the opposite, even with a lift of the same brand (OME).

I loved our 4Runner and regret selling it, even if it was my wife's DD and not a primary trail vehicle. It was great on roadtrips, you could drive it for hours and feel comfortable. The 100 is similar though, but something about the 4Runner made it just a little more road-friendly.

We put around 80k miles on our '03 4Runner and didn't have a lick of trouble with it... always reliable, no issues at all.

Thanks Greg, that's great feedback.

I've got my eye on the Runner in CA. Just talked to the owner and I'm first in line. He says he's still not 100% sure he's ready to sell it, but he'll get back to me tonight. I sure hope he decides to sell it so I can pick it up this weekend.

Just to throw another wrench in the thought process, has anyone brought up a Trooper? My ladies parents have one they use for camping, have had it for over 15 years and I don't think they have ever had a problem with it. Comfortable, decent motor, lots of room inside.

I was reading a bit about troopers today. It seems like they can be had for a great price.

Honestly though, I want the CA Runner. Keep your fingers crossed for me, he may decide not to sell it.
