Help with a car

So my wife just bought a '98 Nissan Sentra. About a month ago it started making a clicking noise that sounds just like a bad CV joint on it's fairly faint. Only thing is that it doesn't make the noise when turning, only in a straight line. It is constant and rapid at speed and gets worse under acceleration.

I tried putting the car on jackstands last night to see if it would make the noise in my driveway but I was unable to duplicate the noise. I'm sure it is because it wasn't under a load.

The noise is completely speed related, it doesn't change with the RPM at all and it is coming from the front passenger side.

It's not too expensive to just replace the whole axle which is probably where I will start anyway but I just wanted to see if anyone has ever had a CV axle go out that didn't click and pop when turning.

Maybe a wheel bearing? I don't know I just need some ideas.

Does it have hub caps or other wheel covers? I had a chevy pick up that would make creaking noises on the road, Due to beauty rings and center caps.
Start with the easy stuff, Best of luck

lift it up from under the a-arm( this puts a load on the ball joints) leave just enough room to shove a pry bar underneath. have someone lift up the pry bar and look to see if you have ball joints going bad you can probably see the wheel bearing too.
