Yeah, I had the 05 Lj with the hemi in it. I have installed them into 4 TJ's. They just don't have the power and mileage that the GM LS motors do. GM would be my choice.

Any luck with the gauges and emissions/inspections with GM motors?

My friend is kind of a older guy and kind of perfectionist, the cleaner the swap the better.

To be honest the Hemi would make the cleanest swap on that year. He would already have all the required evap equipment and fuel tank and pump to run the hemi. All his stock gauges and everything would work no problems with no other mods.

The automatic behind the hemi would have to be used as well and the great things about that is that his transfer case would bolt right back into place with no modification and since he already has the auto his shift linkage and such would all be easily hooked back up.

About the only/best option I know of for the wiring is from squires Hotwire or Hotwire auto. I know he provides the harnesses for most all of the big name swappers. They require that you send in your fuse box harness and they build/graft an all new harness into it for the hemi and auto Trans. Seems like they run around 1400 or so for the ECM flash and harness but that makes it plug and play easy.

If I was to go the hemi route I would be looking for the 6.1L and that should have great power and who would care about fuel mileage with a cool motor like that.

I have lots of picture of my hemi swaps somewhere, I will look and post some tomorrow.

Personally I'd sell the newer TJ and start with an older one. The TJ axles will not hold up to any V8, so as long as your swapping the entire drive train, go cheaper. I get a kick out of people that start with a Rubi, swap the drive train, and then try to sell it basin the price on the fact that the original was a Rubi.
