Herriman City Range

As some of you know there is a proposed range in Herriman. There have been many city council meetings about it. I guess the anti-range(anti-gun) residents are threating the officials with elections and voting them out. It would be great if we could e-mail the mayor and council members and voice support for a range in Herriman. Even if you're not a resident of Herriman please take some time by going to www.herriman.org and e-mailing them. This would be a great opportunity to have a range in the south end of the valley. Thanks.

With the restrictions around Utah Lake I think the Herriman range would do well. I'd even say it would be busier than Lee Kay. As a Saratoga Springs resident I'm all for anything that gets people to shoot somewhere other than my back yard. ;)

no thanks. we don't need a range out here. I am not anti gun so making that assumption that anti range people are anti gun is naive. I moved out here because of how quiet it is. I used to live in bountiful and the noise pollution from the gun range there its why we left. I would rather not have that here..plus we for sure don't need any more traffic and people coming into Herriman to use it.

Emailed! I've been wanting this for a while. It would be so nice to be able to go fire off some rounds after work without having to drive a long ways.

You do understand that you most likely will never hear the range, right? It's more than a mile away from any homes, and there are hills between the proposed range and any homes. This isn't military fire power, we're not talking about shooting 50 cals out there. Besides, if you moved to Herriman to get away from the sound of gun fire, you've moved to the wrong city. Not sure how long you've been out here but it's not uncommon to hear the military trainings going on.

For everyone else, please visit http://www.herrimancity.net/proposed-shooting-range-2/ and voice your support.

you do understand that they did a test already and I heard every shot. plus its easy for you to want it cause you wouldn't have to pay for it. I really don't want my taxes going up any more than they have. you do understand that this if where I live and that I could care less about your convenience to drive to go shoot.

A test? They've done several, and at all three sites. I bet you heard every shot right? The only site that could possibly be heard is site 1, even then it's not that close. Cost has absolutely nothing to do with it. I would gladly pay (via taxes, admittance fees, etc) for the range, if they offered a membership for it, I'd be the first one to sign-up. It has so many potential positives that it would be crazy for Herriman City not to go through with it.

it was only at the first site we had heard all the shooting. I wasn't aware of other site tests. regardless I don't want to pay for it.

So if it cost you nothing, you wouldn't oppose it? They are pursuing grants to get it paid for. If they charged a few bucks for entrance fees, it could possibly show as a profit for the city.

I think I may be getting my information about it from some one who is miss informed. so I need to do some home work on it. if I can't hear it and don't have to pay then I send my blessing.

This is the crap i'm talking about. Before making a decision maybe you should be informed with the correct information?

They brought in audio specialists that deal specifically with gun ranges around the country. They tested it without any sound mitigation and then the proposed sound mitigating. (taller berms, individual stalls, roof, and enclosure. With all of those in place the noise is impossible to hear from any of the locations. I was in the crowd when they did the test and laughed when I heard the anti range people saying they could hear the shots. This was after the guy presenting said it was impossible for the human ear to pick it up.

The land is being donated. Most of the equipment used will be donated. Most of the labor will be donated. Herriman City has a big surplus of money they said the meeting. I doubt this would raise property taxes at all.

If you moved to Herriman to live in a quiet area then you chose the wrong place. I've lived out here for over 10 years. When I got here the only thing out here was the Chevron and hardly anything was around. Herrima is getting so built up its crazy.

Herriman's goal is to have people from other cities come here and spend money. That's why they built the Rodeo grounds, water park, rec center, etc. If you're worried about traffic wait and see if the ski resort ever goes in. They've been talking about that one for 10-15 years.

To sum it up. You're not going to hear it. You're not going to have to pay for it. You won't see it unless you actually go to it.

I am a Range Officer at the shooting range in Kaysville. If the proposed range in Herriman is managed correctly, it should be self sustaning.

The range in Kaysville is owned by the county, but operated under lease by The Wahsatch Shooters. Strictly volunteer. Even on the coldest, most miserable days, we get a ton of shooters there that gladly pay their $7 a day, or $45 a year to shoot. During this last summer, the range was open to the public for free, to reduce the likelyhood of causing a fire somewhere else.

People that want to shoot will always find a place to do it. To help reduce the chance of burning the town to the ground, I would think that the citizens of Herriman would welcome an established, well managed range.

Well I have lived in Herriman before there even was a Herriman, and most of you live right where there was some of the best dove hunting around. We hunted deer all over south mountain. We would ride motor cycles and shoot, it was great. Then you moved in. Haven't been much fun since. Put in the gun range! Quit putting the stupid plastic playgrounds on every corner. No one uses them anyways.
Ok, I'm off my soap box.

Pretty typical. People move to an area that was rural and then bitch about the "hicks" wanting to continue the lifestyle they had before.
These types of people are probably the same people complaining about people shooting on public land when "Target shooting" causes wild fires. I still don't understand how shooting causes fires. My dad is an RO at the Pacific States Range in Springville. In my entire life I don't remember there ever being a fire up there. The shooting bays are all over grass other than the police and cowboy bays. When I was a kid they had steel rails at 25 yard increments to set targets on. Shooting rocks off them with steel core FMJ's never started any fires either. I do understand that hot exhausts, cigarettes and exploding targets cause fires. Eff it. Just take all the guns away.
