anyone have experience with any hid light kits and can tell me what to look for or where to go for the best deal? I have REALLY BAD night vision and my stock lights arent doing the job of helping me out much and I need to look into upgrading before my long trip to oregon in april.

The problem with hid kits is the housing, if you don't go high dollar for projector housings the light scatters and blinds everyone on the road

I've installed them, the cheap ones are expensive and the expensive ones are good. There are no housings that I'm aware of and I'm pretty aware. I don't think it's a good option for an off road vehicle.

My 97 had HID's in it when I bought it and I hated them, switched back to stock with a quality bulb and life is good again. Does your Sidekick have plastic or glass lenses?

Like I wrote, the cheap kits are expensive.

It was actually free, I had a new pair of housings and bulbs on the shelf from awhile back, plus I am selling the HID kit. But I know what you mean, most kits ends up in the trash because they are junk and you have to put normal lights back in. In my Miata I run the Cibie H4 housings with a standard 60/55 bulb and I feel they put out better light than most HID kits.

If you don't have projectors, or a housing designed for HIDs, you are wasting your time and money, and pissing off every driver you blind. If you put them behind fluted lenses, you are blinding everyone and wasting that light you've paid for. If you don't have a sharp, stepped cutoff with the light, you are blinding everyone.

HID forms light differently than Halogen or incandescent. And the bulbs position that light in the housing differently as well.

There is many good reviews for the noyka bulbs on ebay, if you have the halogen capsules throw a wiring upgrade and higher watt bulbs in.

Skip the cheap bulbs or hid kits.

Hid's are illegal for street use unless your vehicle came stock with them. I would reccomend them for offroading because they are hands down brighter. The light output for a 35W hid bulb is typically 3 times brighter than a 55w halogen bulb. As stated above you will create a lot of glare for other drivers if used on the street. A hid bulb is longer which means the light is being produced further into the reflector housing. It's like focusing the beam on a mag light then turning the head of the reflector and the beam becomes scattered.

Also the light scatter is a big problem in a snow storm, the reflection coming back at you will almost blind you. DO NOT put HID's in a housing that is not designed for them, they only cause problems for yourself and the other drivers.

Get some driving lights...make sure they are equal lumen output to your stock lights and use them to supplement your stock lights. The cops are pretty serious about giving you heat about lights that are too bright.
