I don't know if any of you will care to see this get built, but to make myself feel cooler by having my own "build thread", here we go..
Goal: provide adequate space for a family of 5 to enjoy trailer camping while being able to transport each different type of vehicle we recreate with, and keep costs to a minimum.
We have used a cab over camper for the past few years and have absolutely loved it. It fit our needs well, and is easy/cheap to maintain. However, We would like the use of the truck without the camper attached. We do many week long camps and it would be nice to run in to town for supplies without the camper on board.
I purchased a 30' flat bed, with the intentions of dropping the camper on the front and decking the back to be trailer space. We starting hacking away ad the trailer to make them marry the right way..
Last week the family and I spent some time in the camper, and realized QUICKLY that 5 does not fit the same way 4 did last summer. While the baby is still in a cradle at the end of our bed, it would not work through out the summer or coming years. Need more space.
We picked up a 19' 5th wheel last night. It provides an extra bed, and a little more room than the camper. We didn't want anything bigger, as it would make our Hauling space to small for the Jeep.
The plan is to get this on the front of the flat bed. It will leave me with about 16' of deck space which is enough for a jeep and my bike, or the rail and all the families dirt bikes.
Wish me luck!
