don't deny it Brett... you know you created that little bypass to the left of the picture... right over the darkened crusty berms... just messin...

i bet it was those Offroad Design guys..-_-

Most likely it was all the people out there on quads. There were tracks everywhere from those :ugh: As far as I can recall we never ever went off trail.

I even got to swear at people coming down a steep hill right by our camp as they stood up, with no seat belt, in the back of Wranglers and CJ's. It was quite impressive.

after watching a good size group of Offroad Design guys represent themselves with exquisit off road ettiquet... from now on when i see tracks off the trails.. i feel justified in assuming they'd been there before me...

Bart, that's just a low blow.... Kinda like dangling a snickers bar in front of a fat dude with no arms..... :D

I was at Hole in the Rock last weekend also with a fairly large group, that I only knew a few of. A small group of us went down to the Rincon. The trail has deteriorated, but is passible. I'd hate to take anything with a full width axle down it. In one spot you're rubbing a rock on one side and your tire is at the edge on the other.

It was a great trip, too bad about the rain.

Were you with the group that camped at what they were calling "Marble Camp"? Couple full size trucks?

There were actually two groups camped at that spot, one of them was ours. Don't think I'll ever go with a crew that large again. It took us over 8 hours to get everyone in (I strapped half the group through the washed out sandy gulch, and a good part up the new bypass). My wife was in a hurry so we were leaving early on Saturday morning to get out when two of the stock rigs asked if they could go with us. Even stopping a few times to help them, we made it out in about 3 hours.

And the pic you all have been waiting for (sorta)

Very far left is where you use to head up, though you can't see it. You can however see how the canyon is collapsing on itself.

Anybody have a before picture of this area to compare it to, I can't see anywhere a trail could have been.

No, you can't go through the washed out sectioin, there's a 100' drop there now. There is a new bypass right by where the pic was taken. You go up a hill to your left, follow the new trail and then meet up with the old trail within a quarter of a mile.

Were you able to get through the washed out section one way or the other?? How was the rest of the trail?

The black line in my picture is the bypass that Brett used. He's right about when the canyon bottom washes away past that point there wont be any more access.

This was a quick weekend trip for me so I didn't drive my Jeep. That meant that I had to walk in from the next canyon to the east so I didn't see the rest of the trail.

I've been looking at some maps and wonder if it might be possible to skirt around the head of Lake Canyon using the Nokai Dome road. Then go crosscountry and drop back down to the trail. I've never been up there so I don't have any idea what the terrain is like. And would the BLM or Park Service have a fit if you tried?
